One year.
A year since the war between monsters and man had finally come to an end, a year since an eight-year-old girl along with one of the most respected hunters stood up to the crown and branded them liars, a year since that all the hunting ships had been withdrawn from the sea and, in their place, various marine expedition ships were sent, in order to learn more about the monsters and be able to live with them better.
A year since the life that everyone knew changed drastically.

Summary
The ancient stories tell that hundreds of years ago, an aberration of nature was born.
A baby, with human features but with monstrous features. Two horns protruding from his forehead, fins for ears, patches of scales all over his skin, gills on his neck, and deep red eyes like fire. The boy was quickly compared to a demon and the belief that a curse had fallen on him and his family was not long in coming.
With only hours of being born, the minor was thrown into the sea never to be seen again. It is said that the moment the boy had contact with the water he became a horrible and great beast, casting a curse on the sea and the town from where he had been banished, then disappeared without a trace.
And then, the sea beasts appeared and took over the sea.

"Maisie Brumble, if you cut those ropes I'll kill you for being a coward!"
A scream was heard, the ship slowly sinking towards her doom in that whirlpool that the great beast was creating, the girl swallowed heavily, ignoring the order.
"Jacob, stop her!"
One of his hands grabbed her wrist, squeezing it hard and pulling her away from the ropes. The knife that was in her hand was withdrawn and thrown into the sea, Maisie gasped, Jacob growled as he pressed the girl against his chest, giving her protection.
The creaking of the planks of wood and the cries of the sailors were drowned out by the roar of the beast.
Crow had hit the target.
