    “John leaned in to kiss the other. It was foreign, chapped lips and stubble scraped against Paul’s soft skin. His hand climbed up Lennon’s chest before pushing him away.

    John’s pupils were blown. A tongue darted out across his bottom lip.

    “Apology accepted?”

    Paul lifted a hand to his mouth and raised his eyebrows. He lifted his left hand to John’s face and traced a heart into his cheek with a feathered touch.

    Paul slapped Lennon with the force of twelve years of confusion, admiration, and discontent. He doubled over and coughed, wind knocked out of his lungs.”
