She had come from nowhere. One minute he was nursing a whiskey, cigarette in hand, conversing with Abraxas in the manor’s drawing room. The next, she had crashed through the glass coffee table between them, her body twitching with the tell-tale tremors of having been exposed to the Cruciatus Curse for a prolonged period of time. Her clothes were torn and soiled, her arm bloody and cradled to her chest, hair matted with twigs and leaves, lips ashen and chapped, sunken cheeks stained with tears that ran from dark circled eyes, and her voice hoarse as she rasped, “It won’t go away; I’ve tried,” before losing consciousness.
