You moved in on a common summer day, when the sun beat down relentlessly and the blazing heat melted the outlines of every metal rail until their blurry shapes floated around in his eyesight, like oil on water. Their apartment was on the third floor, second to the very last; yours was right next to theirs, and Osamu dimly recalled that there had been an old lady living in that house up until three months ago, when she suddenly disappeared.
His mom had said something about a heart attack, but he, being the child of seven years that he was, only remembered—with a certain joy that accompanied the memory—that she was making curry rice later that night.
(In which you replace Kita as the holder of the Miya twins' leashes, and you do a both terrific and horrific job at it.)

“Of course,” Flame answered, grinning at him. “We beat the Law, and now I’ll beat you.”
