Summary
He was fourteen when his life changed for a second time. The first was when the demon killed his mom, leaving his father alone and desperate, struggling to raise his boys. The second, when he was kidnapped and kept in a bright room for weeks. Even now, years later, Sam still remembers what happened when the lights went out. Lucky for him, his connection with his brother kept saving him just as it had saved him all those years ago. Dean knows him, soothes him, he understands. With his brother's love, Sam knows that he has come a long way. It's the hunt for a deity that feeds off fear and trauma that stirs it all up again. An unexpected turn of events forces Sam to revisit the bright room. It forces Dean to revisit it as well. As the consequences of Sam's past unfold and affect their relationship, Sam also finds out that not all demons leave behind a scent trail of sulfur. One in particular leaves behind a citric, terrifying one. Can Dean keep saving him when the past shatters down the wall in Sam's mind again? Can Sam save himself?

Summary
This story is set in season one and starts directly after the events in episode 13 “Route 666” and is loosely canon compliant.
Both boys are dealing with their feelings.
Sam left for Stanford and ignored every call from his brother for four years, because he was deeply in love with him and afraid Dean would hate him if he ever finds out.
Dean is hurt to the core, alone and convinced his family abandoned him. But then John disappears without a trace. Dean gets Sam and they are looking for their Dad, who’s still missing, but of course other things happen.
They get involved in a case of missing people, Sam gets kidnapped and Dean needs to find his brother urgently.
This might sound like the plot of “The Benders”.
And it has definitely a lot of elements from that episode in it, but of course we don’t want to retell the story you all already know.
