    Summary

“What the—” Jay began, sitting back up, though she realised her mistake when Gillion whimpered as his body forced itself to growth again. “Fuck, okay, sorry, I’m—do you want me to lay back down?” Vision swimming, Gillion got himself to nod. “Okay.”

She did. Gillion’s arm burned where it was thrown around her. His bones felt like they’d broken and regrown wrong. His organs felt beaten tender. His veins itched, warning of danger.

And of course Jay understood. She had always been the smartest of the bunch. “You know, when you said you’re five-one when no one’s looking at you, you could’ve clarified that that wasn’t a joke.”

It was said with love, of course. As everything she said was. It meant you idiot, you could’ve saved yourself so much trouble. Why do you never save yourself trouble you don’t need to be in?

Gillion made himself breathe, fighting the ugly creak of his ribs as his chest expanded. “It wasn’t.”

    Summary

Chip could feel his whole chest pounding rhythmically, and after the time he’d spent with his body still and silent, it felt wrong. Nausea churned in his stomach as the intense awareness of his body grew. What was he now? Human? Dead?

He shouldn’t be alive, that was for sure.

As his heart continued beating, his chest burned hotter and hotter until he finally felt bile rise up in his throat, and he retched, coughing up something acidic. His throat burned, and he coughed a few more times, turning back to Arlin.

Arlin. Right, he couldn’t let himself forget. Arlin was…important to him. He was pretty sure that was true.

What was he saying, of course Arlin was important to him, he was the closest thing Chip had to a father. A dad.

    or,
what if Arlin died when Gillion attacked the egg, and also what if Chip's memory problems got worse?

    Summary

In the last thirty-six hours, Gillion had successfully lost his oaths, his (not) sister, the one person who’d ever shown him any sort of kindness, his self-perception, his hand, and now the person who’d taken his hand. Lost, into the Undersea, or somewhere else, and Gillion needed to find him and kill him.
Twelve hours felt like too long to give Odilath, too much of a head start, but he could hardly deny they needed the time. Aurora looked exhausted, Chip was clinging by a thread, Jay’s poor leg was hardly more than strands of black ichor. Twelve hours was the least he could give to them.

So he let the door to his childhood bedroom shut behind him, and took a deep inhale, the familiar salt water passing through the gills of his neck. Rest.

    Right.

    Easy!

Gillion attempts to process the last thirty-six hours, only to discover the last thirty-six hours got hands. And he... well. Doesn't.

    Summary

Gillion wasn't a human. Chip knew that.

Of course Chip wasn't mad about it. Why would he? I mean he's come to accept and in many cases understand the small quirks that Gill had due to growing up in the undersea. That being said, he still didn't understand a lot of what Gillion considers to be normal or tradition. But he tries. He asks questions, he's patient, ect ect. Sometimes though things were just, a little too weird for him to wrap his head around.

“So, you have no idea why he set these here?” Jay asks, looking over the many, many, *many* necklaces strewn across Chip’s bed.

    Summary

gillion feared rejection; feared disappointment. despite how highly chip thought of gillion, gillion still believed chip might view him as weak and inadequate and a burden, of all the things the elders believed of him.

chip felt there was nothing more important to him in that moment than to show gillion he was loved.

AKA: gillion gets knocked down in a fight. after dragging gillion back to the ship barely conscious, chip takes care of gill as best as he can while gillion battles with his impulsive nature (that may or may not be worse due to a concussion)

the whole first chapter is just fluff and light angst sprinkled in :] they'll smooch in the second chapter tho if that's what you're here for
