Then, with the cuffs secured again and Higgs arms behind his back again, Die-Hardman walked him out and Sam slowly followed. Higgs kept his head down until he was pulled out into the hall, finally looking up only for his eyes to land on Lou.
Higgs grinned at her, “I see you’re doing well. Too bad the same can't be said about that bitch-“
Sam had twisted Higgs towards himself and landed a strong punch to his gut before Higgs could finish his teasing. Higgs doubled over—laughing breathlessly—only to be picked right back up by Die-Hardman who still had a grip on the cuffs.
“Bastard.” Tarman muttered under his breath.
Or
Sam takes Higgs on a road trip to deliver him to the UCA after Higgs is somehow alive and in his own body after the events of DS2, but Higgs asshole mask is cracking and revealing the abused and broken man underneath. Both Sam and Higgs have feelings about that, and insults turn into discussions, leading to apologies and inner turmoil.

Sam breaks his gaze away. The room hums around them like a living thing, machines on standby, instruments lined up—time itself, held in suspension.
After a long moment, Sam relents, “Still true.”
Higgs nods, accepting the simple admission. “But.”
“But,” Sam warily continues, meeting his eyes again, “that doesn’t mean I’m afraid of you.”
The words land. Settle. Stay. Nestled somewhere in a private ribcage.
Higgs does not grin or joke. He absorbs it as if it might one day save him. His eyes are steady, a carefully guarded gift lining somewhere in his iris.
“So, that begs the important distinction, then,” He’s all quiet and tender in a way Sam has hardly ever recognized in him. “If it’s not the person trying to connect with you that’s the problem, what are you afraid of, Porter?”
Sam’s fingers tighten lightly on the edge of his seat. “It’s me,” he nearly whispers. “I’m afraid of me.”

Sam came to a hesitant stop, watching as Higgs slowly caught up to him. And then, barely audible, “Please… please, please, please…” A quiet chant as he hauled himself up.
Sam couldn’t believe what he was hearing, or seeing. Higgs, the particle of god, kneeling on broken legs, begging, eyes wide and pleading.

“I’m stranded, you’re not,” Sam was quick to correct him. And he was right, Higgs could just snap his fingers and vanish off to wherever the hell he goes to spend his spare time. Technically, he wasn’t either. He could leave whenever he wanted, but it would cost him in the long run with worn down materials and damaged cargo.
If he truly wanted to, he could leave his cargo under the shelter and make a run for the city, and grab a bike or a truck there; and maybe some repair spray while he was at it. But just his luck, MULE’s would come and poach his cargo while he was gone.
