Summary
Year 2950.
The world is dying, not with a bang, but with a silence. A global collapse born from a simple, devastating deficit: people. Decades of soaring depression and suicide rates have hollowed out nations, prompting a drastic, government-engineered solution.
Those deemed at risk are ushered into state-run Therapy Centers. Meanwhile, a select few are groomed at a specialized Academy, trained to be the cornerstone of a grand social experiment: The Soulmate Programme.
Twice a year, its cold, algorithmic machinery whirs to life. Graduates are paired with those from the Centers, their lives legally and irrevocably bound in the name of preservation.
On a bleak autumn day, amidst the sterile chill of a matching ceremony, Jung Wooyoung’s file was linked to Choi Jongho’s. The system had spoken. Now, they were left to answer the impossible question hanging in the air between them: could a bond, built by decree, ever forge a life worth living?
