Summary
He pressed a sweet kiss to your forehead before pulling back to look at you in that way only he could, with those bright eyes. “I think we should stay,” he said.
“Hm?”
Brasso pulled you close and you rested your head on his chest, his heart beating steady. “Here,” he said. “On Gatalenta. You’re happy here.”
He was right. You’d worked hard to build a business selling your handmade goods. You had a stall at the local artists’ market and friends in that community. Finally, a few years ago, you’d been able to buy this little house, with a spare room you’d converted into something of an office. It even a small patio on the back. And the city…it wasn’t a big city but it was big enough to have everything you needed. And now that Brasso was here…you had all that you could ever want.
“Are you happy here, Brass?”
For a moment, he was quiet, his eyes closing, searching for the exact words he needed before he spoke. “I really thought I’d want to go back to Ferrix when the Empire fell. When my name was cleared.” He paused, let out a deep breath. “But it isn’t the same—it never will be. They’re rebuilding, and I’d love to visit and help with that. But I think I like having this fresh start, here, with you.”

Summary
You remember back before the war when he’d hurt his knee in the Ferrix scrap yard, how he’d tried to go back to work injured and made it so much worse. When you heard about this from a mutual friend, you’d gone over on your day off with a hot meal, just to make sure he was taking care of himself.
From the look on his face when he saw you standing in his doorway that day, you should have known how he felt about you. You’d called ahead, so he’d been expecting you—but there was something in those bright eyes of his. At the time, you’d told yourself it was relief. That he’d been stuck inside by himself for a few days and was just glad to see anyone—even if that person was going to hound him about resting. But you know now that it was yearning, that you could have asked him that day to quit his job and take you to the Outer Rim and he would have started packing a bag

Summary
In the back seat, you note a bag of groceries.
“Thought I might make us something special tonight,” he says. “Had to pick up a few things..”
“You don’t have to cook, Brass. I know it’s been a long day for you.”
A shipment that was supposed to arrive yesterday arrived late today, meaning two shipments had to be unloaded and taken care of almost simultaneously. He’d sent you a message earlier, letting you know not to expect him for lunch. But now he smiles as he starts the speeder, takes your hand in his, bringing it to his lips for a kiss.
“You know I have a full team, right?” he says. “It was a long day, but I’m more than happy to make us dinner. You’ve had a very long week, and you deserve something nice tonight.”

Summary
“You’ve always been so generous with your time. Not just with me, but with everyone.”
Brasso kisses your forehead, his lips warm and soft. “I never saw any reason not to be,” he says. “And I never minded. Especially with you. I always knew that if I showed up on your doorstep, you wouldn’t turn me away. Even if you knew that I wasn’t really coming by just to check on you.”
There were nights when you’d hear the buzzer for your door in the evening, after dark, and you immediately knew it was Brasso. Nobody else visited that late unannounced—and there was no one else you’d tolerate this with. But it was Brasso, and so you always let him in. And sometimes he’d say hadn’t seen you at the cafe recently and thought he should come see if you needed anything and you’d invite him in and you’d end up just talking for hours over a late meal. And sometimes he’d show up and you could see in his eyes that something was wrong and you’d let him pretend he’d come by because he was worried about you and not because someone he cared about had gone missing and he didn’t want to be by himself.
“I’m always glad to see you,” you tell him. “Always have been.”

Summary
I’m just so glad you’re safe, love.”
This was the first time he’d ever used that term of endearment with you, and you weren’t sure what to make of it, but it warmed something inside of you that you knew you’d never shake, even as you felt yourself giving way to panic.
Brasso pulled you close again. “Hey,” he said. “I’ve got you.”.
It’s all you needed to hear.
