"I'm sorry!" The centaur replies immediately, holding up his hands in surrender. “Peace, I mean you no harm, I was just stopping here to rest.
Hob, a wandering centaur, accidentally trespasses onto Dream's territory one night. When Dream confronts him, he's not expecting to be met with the most handsome centaur he's seen in centuries.

Summary
Dream narrowly escapes capture by another group of occultists, and seeks shelter with Hob Gadling - only the binding sunk into his form renders him nearly human. Disoriented and in the throes of a trauma flashback, the underside of the bed is highly appealing. Fortunately, Hob is up to the task of supplying Dream with a collection soft objects until he's ready to come out. (Hob's cat Milky Way, of course, is annoyed that her dad is distracted by Dream, and demands Dream throw her mousie. A lot.)

Something tumbled under the bed, and he hissed on instinct.
It bumped into his hand, and was very soft. He prodded at it, rolling it over, tracing the shape of it. It was a bird, a plushie like he'd seen in children's dreams. He blinked in the darkness. Why had someone given him a stuffed corvid?

Summary
The hard part about being immortal is that it's hard to form really close relationships with anyone. Makes sense, then, that in a world where people share dreams with their soulmate from the moment they meet, Hob would be the only person who's been dreaming alone all his life.
(Well, as alone as can be, when he spends every night in a wonderful dreamland, with stretched out fields and magical villages and a beautiful castle looming out over him.)

The thing was, he knew he was not uncomely.
Not even for someone of his size and stature. He knew there were those who appreciated a deep chest and a foursome of sturdy legs adorned with rugged feathers and rooted in the ground via a set of good strong hooves.
Hell, he’d known some who really appreciated that in him specifically.
The other thing was, though, that the last time he really let himself fall into the well of that appreciation, it had landed him with more heartbreak than a single lifetime could hold, and for all that he was older than a single lifetime by far these days, the hurt in that scar still hadn’t faded completely.
