Summary
All of it felt like a bad dream, one that you had been trying to wake up from for the last 4 years, and you didn't even know if it had reached its apex yet. Your arms ached from the pressure of your restraints, but your resistance against them was half-assed. Some part of you wanted to scream and thrash and demand your freedom, but a more prevalent part just couldn't find the energy. By now, you had figured out it was most likely the scouts that had you in custody, although you were still confused about where they had brought you.
The sound of boots on a grated metal floor pulled you from your thoughts almost instantly. Someone was coming. A wave of dizziness washed through your body at the idea of having to confront one of the scouts. You told yourself you wouldn't have to face them again, the expressions of betrayal that were ingrained in your memory would be just that, a memory.

You were one of the warriors that invaded the island, 4 years later you get taken as a hostage by the scouts during the Liberio raid, and now a past situationship is coming to haunt you.

"Your father killed me and my family, didn't he?" Frieda questioned, hair strands in her gaze. She didn't have the energy to tuck them behind her ear.
"Yes." Eren said. His voice was miserable, tone broken and ragged around the edges. "I'm sorry."
At the corner of her eye, she watched him as he hunched over, his hair covering his face.
Frieda sat in silence. "It's alright." She managed to croak weakly. After a few moments, her dry lips let out; "I'm a victim of my family's actions as well."
Eren's entire body was stiff.
Frieda straightened, not shying away from the question. She looked around, at the destruction and solemnity around them. "Did this happen because of you, Eren?"

The sun hides behind the grey clouds moving agitatedly across the sky. The sea churns and sends up salt spray. You're both soaked through, your green wool cloaks plastered to your heads. You shiver in the autumn chill. Below you see dolphins jump in the bay. Armin has spotted a minke whale; seals with long whiskers and the faces of old men; shiny fish as long as your forearm; and black and white puffins with intelligent eyes. He scribbles in his notebook, sketching the plants and animals that live here where land meets sea.
Armin draws a crude map, marking down the site of the village. He has learnt the names of things from a book once forbidden and now integral to the Survey Corps’ mission. He holds a copy now, confirming the existence of the pelican and the albatross. His fingers move along the map, finding the names of forgotten places. He writes the name of the village on his map in neat, small letters.

Pain flooded the skin of her face and she tasted something metallic. When her eyes adjusted again, she was faced with two green irises and a mad wrinkled face staring down at her.

Summary
Eren has deserted in Marley. The rest of the Survey Corps returns to Paradis to face interrogations and an uncertain future. In the wake of uncertainty, Armin and Mikasa seek comfort in familiar routines.
They're in the bath, the grime and filth of Liberio washing off them in rivulets and eddies of soapy water. The claw-foot tub is big enough for both of them, big enough to wrap around each other and feel the wet, slippery slide of freshly washed skin against freshly washed skin. Mikasa sits behind him, pours water from the cracked pitcher with the big pink rose on it over his head, and works the soap into a lather, massaging his scalp, her nails rubbing circles against his skull. His hair hangs long and limp on his neck, brushing his shoulders. It's grown long, and she gathers it in her hand, carding through the wet strands thoughtfully.
“What if I cut your hair tonight?”
“Alright.”
