Mycroft Holmes classified his wife as a structural adjustment, and the structure has been adjusting ever since.
When counterintelligence operative Belinda Cross becomes an operational irregularity in Mycroft's life, he does what he does best: he builds architecture around her. A spare room becomes a residence. A residence becomes a civil partnership. A civil partnership becomes a marriage. The marriage becomes the one room in his life he did not design and cannot control.
She makes the tea wrong. He places a glass of water beside her medication every morning. She fixes his collar. He leaves the study door open. Neither of them calls it love, because calling it love would require a vocabulary neither of them has built yet.
Then Sherlock comes back. Then Mary dies. Then Eurus starts testing whether the Iceman can break. -
