“About what are you thinking so terribly hard, bello? You look as though you’re a thousand miles away.” Will nodded and picked up the pristine white napkin from his place setting. He folded it on his lap, just to give his hands something to do.
“This place always reminds me of a friend,” he replied before he could stop himself. “He would have loved the life I built here, as he was the architect of it’s foundations.” The conversation around them slowed. His friends leaned in to listen, fascinated by his descriptions of his previous life in America. He so rarely opened up about anything before his arrival that it captured their attention like moths to a pyre. They waited, but to their disappointment, Will offered them nothing further.
“What happened to this friend of yours?” Giulia prompted. “Why is he not here with you?”
“He’s…” Will paused to consider. “He’s lost to me. Gone from my life. We ceased contact not very long before I left the United States for fairer shores.”OR
Will escaped the fall, but lost Hannibal on the shores of the ocean. He did his best to make a home for himself in Palermo, unaware he'd get everything he ever desired and more. He just had to ask for it. -

Summary
When Will wakes, there’s nothing left for him. He’s unable to speak and his body is in pieces. There’s a touch that tells him one thing. Hannibal is there.
Sometimes being with someone weighs heavier than their absence. Sometimes you just want to stay down in the depths, but if Will knows anything for certain, it's that most things end where they start. And that he has no choice but to ball his fists, cuss himself out, follow suit and hold on tight.

Hannibal inclines his head, occupying his hand instead with the dried leaves littering the cushion. “It’s still inconclusive whether I’ll snuff out this particular candle,” he says. “But the occasion calls for something grand regardless. I, for one, would greatly appreciate your company.”
Will snorts. “Not sure the good doctor will feel the same way.”
“No?” Hannibal’s eyes narrow with a smile. “She’ll come around.”

Summary
After pushing them off the cliff and letting the fates decide their future, Will Graham wakes up in the ocean.
Alone.
Wrestling for control with the monster deep inside him, he plans how he will hurt and kill Hannibal (once the man comes back, because lets be real, that asshole wouldn't simply die—that would be too contrite). However, his goals shift and flicker as he finds himself through killing others. Anger drives him forward. Even as he comes to accept himself, his desperate love and need for Hannibal, he remains furious. It doesn't help that Hannibal hovers in the edges of his vision, refusing to leave, a permanent fixture in Will's mind—yet never real enough.
Somehow, through the violence and blood, through love and fury so holy it can't be anything but divine, they find their way back together.
