She can almost pretend that they’re a normal family having a normal Christmas, instead of three struggling people who only have each other in this world. She can pretend that her plans to visit family and friends weren’t completely lost, that she woke up in her cozy home this morning.
But if there wasn’t the apocalypse, there wouldn’t be Scar and Bdubs. They never would have met, and Cleo wouldn’t have them.

Right in the center of the trunk is an orange glow, bright enough to see even with their flashlights shining on it. The bark it’s coming from looks like the only part that’s not rotted away, but it does seem more rough and jagged. Skizz starts to walk towards it, but Impulse grabs his wrist to stop him. “I don’t think we should get close to it, man.”
“C’mon Impulse, it looks so cool! I want a picture with it!” Skizz twists his arm out of Impulse’s grasp and continues despite the terrible feeling that settles in Impulse’s stomach.
