Shane knew he needed to be more honest with himself about his emotions, but saying them in words had never been his strong suit. It felt awkward, but his research recommended he try it, and it couldn’t hurt anything if nobody knew he was doing it.
That didn’t make the blank paper in front of him less intimidating.

Ilya couldn’t let himself believe it. He wanted to, he wanted to so fucking badly, but if he believed it, then he would give Shane everything, and when it inevitably wasn’t enough and Shane left him, he would have nothing left to fall back on. His mind raced through all of the reasons that Shane was wrong, all of the reasons he was just going to fuck it up and he felt like he couldn’t breathe.
