Next thing Robin knew, she’d gotten her fingers tangled in the legendary coif of the Kind of Hawkins High—up close in a fashion she’d never coveted, though most girls she knew would kill for it. Super-weirdest of all, she was dying of worry for him. Because Steve Harrington just went out on a limb to protect her. And she wasn’t even faintly surprised.Or, Season 3 alt canon (with no Soviets/Upside Down stuff yet!): Robin and Steve both have mega-painful secrets and literally nobody to share them with. Working together at Scoops—and an encounter with a horrible customer—changes everything.

Robin curled an arm around Steve. “All you need to do is keep being Dustin’s friend, Steve. You’re shockingly good at that, though… It might help if you admitted that you’re hurting too.”
“For Eddie?” Steve glanced up. His face had turned white and kinda waxy. “I hardly knew him. I got no right.”
“You’ve got every right. We didn’t know him long, but after what we went through—we all learned to love him. So, if Dustin’s not okay, neither are you, and it majorly sucks.”
setzappersto_pew prompted me for an alternate-ish S4 ending, focussing on Steve actually getting medical care for his bat bites etc., and on the grief of Eddie’s loss. This is only a little one-shot, so it probably doesn’t do justice, but hope you like :)

Robin’s welling up. She’s anxiously petting Steve’s hair, which he probably hates, though he’s closed his eyes, and… “I wish it didn’t always have to be you,” she blurts. “I mean, I guess it’s explainable. You always run in first, you selfless idiot. But I hate that you’re always the one that gets knocked around by the bad guys, mauled half to death by demo-bats. Okay, the sicko throttling vines kinda went for me too, but you mean so much to me.”
End of season 4 alternate scene: When Robin and Steve are helping with the relief effort at the High School, Hawkins is rocked by the second (Vecna-induced) earthquake/minor apocalypse, and Steve gets hurt (quelle surprise!)
From day 5 whumptober prompts—“You better pray I don’t get up this time around;” debris; pinned down; "it’s broken." Also day 12 prompt--red, literally because I was working on a fic for that day too and got mixed up what belonged where!!

Steve leans over her, looking pale and freaked out. Her pulse and breathing are going apeshit and she’s pretty much as close to a panic attack as she’s been in months. She pictures him dead. Herself dead, too. Sometimes, in the darkness, it’s all she ever sees... “Robin?” He waves his hand in front of her nose, ripping her back to the present.
“I… uh, I’m fine.” Just reliving what happens in glorious technicolour most nights when I close my eyes. “Your lip… It’s bleeding.”
When Steve is hurt in a robbery at Family Video, Robin experiences horrible flashbacks to THAT night at Starcourt. It looks like her insomnia is back for good… until Steve comes up with a plan. Inspired by whumptober day 12 prompts “I haven’t slept in days, but who’s counting?”; insomnia; and “I’m up, I’m up.”

“—hates me.” Robin sighed.
“Nah. She’s confused and she should dump her date’s ass for taking her to an ice-cream joint when it’s this damn cold.” He sneezed again, and she started to worry about him. “He’ll probably turn into the kind of moronic boss who makes their staff wear shorts when it’s practically snowing outside.”
Robin and Steve feel each other’s pain more than they’ll admit, even to each other. From Whumptober day 30, “It’s okay just to say I’m not okay”; bridal carry; plus, another lovely prompt from pearlravenlapis (not quoted here, as it gives too much plot away!)

When Steve is sworn into the police as a volunteer deputy, they’re still ‘in it’ together, especially when Robin suspects Steve is too sick to go out patrolling (and too stubborn to admit it.)
