He has difficulty in making connections with his classmates. The only anchor is Grayson and his guardian doesn't even see him he sees the shadows of his other little brothers.
Damian is an obligation. Bruce Wayne took Grayson in as a child and now Grayson was only returning the favour.
It couldn't be any other reason.
