Summary
Different choice are made in 1889 - subtle ones. Then Dream and Hob see each other in the Dreaming in 1891, and then 1900, and promise to meet again in 1920... but a certain magus imprisoned Dream in his basement in 1916, where he remains drugged and confused in the glass orb until Hob frees him in 1930.

Summary
It's the 'Dream thinks sex is kind of transactional and he doesn't really enjoy it that much' fic. Fortunately, Hob notices Very Quickly and helps Dream start delving into queer identity and frameworks of consent. With bonus Rose content as Dream pops up to acquire alternate perspectives on queer identity.

...Hob also gives him an entire compiled and annotated history of the last 130 years in LGBTQ movements and identities, plus the concept of sane safe and consensual and frameworks of consent. With a recommended reading list. Dream reads it, carefully, and notes down where he has questions, which is on… well, almost half of it, at least for the consent parts. He thinks perhaps this is not ideal.

Dream's having a rough time when it's storming, there's a power outage in the New Inn and flickering glass and lights and shadows, and then someone breaks a glass, and then - well, fortunately Hob lives just upstairs. (Adjusted canon just a bit so the fear of darkness is more palpable.)

"Where is he?" Hob said, though the question became unnecessary when he heard the noise. Keening and - there weren't actually words to describe it, except that it made Hob want to claw out his own eardrums or run away frantically. Gritting his teeth, he forced his way through the agony.

Summary
Morpheus gives Hob the means to write him letters at some point in their centennial meetings. They write back and forth, Dream still storms out in 1889, somehow they keep writing letters... until 1916, when Roderick Burgess summons Dream into the basement of Fawney Rig. Wondering if Dream's just given up on him, Hob keeps writing anyway, until one day the Dreaming itself starts sending them to the Library and a certain Librarian. A rescue mission ensues.

Summary
Human!AU where Dream is pretty imminently breaking up with an abusive Thessaly; Hob is his oldest friend and taking care of him. (The Dreamling in this is pre-relationship and that relationship is likely a QPP/QPR in my head).

"Shh, sweetheart, I got you," Hob murmurs, taking out the jumper from his bag and offering it to Dream. He really, really wants to find Thessaly and give her a piece of his mind, but right now, he has Dream to take care of.
"I'm sorry for bothering you but I just… I couldn't anymore," Dream whispers, Hob's jumper loose and drowning his slender frame. He winces with every motion and Hob suppresses his own.

Roderick Burgess kidnaps Hob Gadling on June 7, 1989, intending to break both him and Dream. Instead, Dream being rather aggressively tortured triggers the knowledge of Hob's identity as Hope of the Endless, wrapped away in a mental box as they had been.

Once Dream is tended to, a kettle of tea on, Hob – he's Hob again, he thinks, though he's also still Hope, but he's not winged and glowing anymore – slumps next to the bed in a chair.
This is … extremely not how he'd thought the week would be going. Two days ago he had simply been the immortal Hob Gadling. Dream starts mumbling something in unconsciousness, delirious.

Summary
Dream has a lot of stuff going on: organizing a big museum exhibit, dealing with chronic illness, and trauma following being kidnapped for four days - and that he's just moved flats recently because he couldn't stand everything around him looking the same when he wasn't. He's doing his best. Then he finds his neighbor's cat Molly loose in the hallway, and returning the wayward cat turns into something more than just neighbors in the block of flats.

Summary
Glass elevators, as it turns out, are not an ideal location for Dream to be in. Especially when they break down. Hob supports Dream through the resultant panic attack and flashbacks, and then holds Dream in his office.

"I – I can't," the other gasps, shaking harder. Dream drops his head against Hob's chest, and Hob brings his hand up to stroke his hair. They stand there for a few minutes, and Hob whispers soft nothings into Dream's ears but his friend's breathing doesn't ease, and his grip is so tight on Hob's shirt the threads are liable to disintegrate.
"Let's sit down," Hob says, and to his surprise Dream simply goes with the motion, lets Hob sit down and then maneuver Dream so that he's lying with his head against Hob's chest.
