“Our dear Wanyin thinks about moving out of his parent’s house. Into an apartment of his own,” Nie Huaisang explains and Jiang Cheng looks down at his laptop.
He knows that it might not be the best idea, not with how likely he is to have an accident on the very first day, but he does not want to see if Nie Mingjue is going to be disappointed in him.
“No,” Nie Mingjue immediately says and Jiang Cheng flinches at that.

Summary
Jiang Cheng blushes furiously when the entire implication hits him; they are going to be naked, or at least close to it. He’s going to see that muscular body up close and without layers upon layers of fabric, hiding it away.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t know if he’s ready for that but he guesses there’s no time like the present to find out.
He only realizes belatedly that there might be another problem with this.
His hand twitches but he manages to keep it down. Instead he rolls his shoulders, hoping that it might come off as normal but the injuries on his back don’t even so much as twinge.
It should be fine, then.

Jiang Cheng can only stare at Wei Wuxian, his mouth widely open and Nie Mingjue steps closer, to let him know that he’s there, that he has support.
“I know how much Wanyin cares about me, I don’t need his tongue in my mouth for that,” Nie Mingjue mildly says and then smiles slightly at Lan Wangji when he narrows his eyes at him.

Jiang Cheng knows that despite everything he could still say no and Nie Huaisang would accept it, but now Jiang Cheng is curious.
“Sure,” he easily agrees because he trusts Nie Huaisang and he knows he can still say no even once the question is asked.
“Just out of curiosity, why did you kiss my brother and not me?”

Jiang Cheng wakes up with another preppy pop-song stuck in his head and he sighs as he buries his head back into his pillow.
It’s of course nice to have a soulmate, but sometimes Jiang Cheng wishes his would be a late sleeper and be into different music genres. Maybe even mix it up sometimes. If Jiang Cheng has to listen to one more pop-song for an entire day he’s going to lose his mind.

Summary
Jiang Cheng is aware that what he’s doing right now is effectively hiding himself away but he can’t stomach the thought of going out of his room and join Nie Huaisang and Nie Mingjue for dinner. He hasn’t been officially invited and he’s not going to assume and he’s probably as unwelcome at the dinner table as he is in the Unclean Realm as a whole.
Not that anyone said anything but the actions speak for themselves.
Nie Mingjue hasn’t looked at him past the wedding ceremony, Nie Huaisang is giving him the most fake smiles Jiang Cheng has ever received and they put him in one of the most removed rooms and it’s not even heated.
At this rate Jiang Cheng is going to die of sheer cold and he’s not going to mind it. It’s better than knowing that his own family gave him away like cattle and that his supposedly new family doesn’t care one bit for him.

When Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian start to raise their voices Jiang Cheng gets up to leave. It makes him—not quite nervous when his parents start to yell but it makes him restless and on most days it makes him sick to his stomach, like today as well.
And he learned that removing himself from the situation is still the best thing he can do, and it’s not as if his parents even notice him leaving, they are too busy to yell at each other.

“You might have to,” Nie Huaisang cautiously says as he picks the letter up to read it over again. He already heard the content once when Nie Mingjue read it out to him—more like shouted it out to him—but it seems he needs to read it again.
“And why is that?” Nie Mingjue challenges him, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
“Feelings change. You agreed that his time here would be a trial period. Maybe he doesn’t feel the same for you after this.”

Summary
The shaking continues to wreck his body, and Jiang Cheng is ashamed to feel tears well up in his eyes but it’s not as if anyone can see him here, in the middle of the woods and in the dark.
He still presses his eyes into his knees, hoping to make it stop, to make it all stop, but of course it doesn’t work like that and the tears continue to flow.
Jiang Cheng startles badly when he hears someone walk towards him, but he spent enough time on and off the battlefield with Nie Mingjue to recognise his energy so the fight or flight instinct doesn’t kick in.
Which just means that Nie Mingjue finds him curled up on the ground, crying his heart out, which is of course not really ideal.

Summary
Jiang Cheng lets out a distressed whimpering sound before he even fully wakes and Nie Mingjue is quick to tighten the grip on his hand.
“It’s alright, Wanyin, you’ve made it to the Unclean Realm, and you’re safe here. Nothing can happen to you here.”
Jiang Cheng turns towards his voice and sluggishly blinks his eyes open. It takes him a few seconds to recognize Nie Mingjue but as soon as he does he bursts into tears.
“Mingjue,” he sobs out and curls towards Nie Mingjue, which can’t be good for his injuries at all, but if this is what Jiang Cheng wants then Nie Mingjue won’t deny him. He scoots closer and takes Jiang Cheng into his arms, allowing him to cry until he feels better.

Letting another Sect Leader camp outside is actually ruder than what Jiang Cheng normally does but he thinks he’s allowed this one time. Nie Mingjue very rudely rejected his courtship offer and Jiang Cheng thinks he’s entitled to this right now.
“Let him rot outside then,” Jiang Cheng decides and turns back to the letter in his hand.
It doesn’t lift his mood seeing as it is from Sect Leader Yao but at least it takes his mind off Nie Mingjue.
