The pinpricks in the night sky are visible tonight, even though the smog of the city tends to haze them out more often than not. Tonight, they shine a little brighter, and maybe it’s because someone didn’t smoke their last cigarette tonight, or a car stayed off the road, but either way, they’re there, and they’re shining like a last encore. Dabi, ever the picture of grace, is too busy throwing up in the bushes to notice. Alcohol has never really ever sat well with him, but that’s to be expected, like a lot of things don’t. Dairy and fish. The smell of bleach. Campfires, ironically enough.

Tomura’s parents have not been home since they first met, on Tomura’s eighth birthday. Tomura has always said they’ve cut ties with him, they’ve moved on and left him behind, but he always speaks of them acidically, like a poisonous frog had hopped into his mouth and died on his tongue. Like he’s never really forgotten how they’ve wronged him. Dabi doesn’t know what they’ve done, and he does not dare ask. Because, again-- he is cowardly.

So Dabi settles for second best, which is stretching his limbs around Tomura instead and clinging to him like an octopus. It's warm and comfortable despite their mutual boniness and it's comforting, but it can't happen all the time. He's pretty sure those times in particular should feel greyer than any other, but it's odd, because it's somehow a privilege in and of itself to not be allowed to touch Tomura. Because Tomura is trusting him to listen. He'll say leave me alone and it'll mean don't touch me right now, my body feels wrong. Give me a little while. Just go to sleep.

Tomura traces the man in the photo's features with his fingers, gliding along his nose, cheekbones, brow, and tries to think of what's catching his eye here. He looks like someone he'd entirely abhor from day one if they ever met; the rest of him might be passable as just clean-cut, but Tomura could recognize the empty frost in those eyes no matter whose they were. That's a very specific kind of look. You don't have it by accident.
