Description:

Forty years after saying goodbye, John Doggett gets a second chance at forever with the woman he loved and lost.

Notes:

Once upon a time, a long time ago on a Doggett/Scully 'shipper mailing list, a member named Cassie made a comment I don't really remember clearly about how what happened to Scully in the episode "Tithonus" and what happened to Doggett in the episode "The Gift" paralleled each other. I don't remember if she raised the possibility this particular consequence of those episodes or if that was all me, but either way it inspired this alternate universe. I wrote it for a number of reasons, one of which being that as much as I liked the idea of Doggett/Scully, I knew it was never going to happen while Mulder was alive. This idea gave me a way to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak: to be respectful both of the first 'ship I fell in love with (M/S) and the one that stole me away in the end (D/S).

The series was started in the hiatus between seasons 8 and 9, so season 9 is pretty much ignored. Also, I'm pretty sure (though not 100%) that the title is Latin for "To Eternity."

Soundtrack (aka the songs I listened to while I was writing this):

Oh How the Years Go By - Amy Grant
She Misses Him - Tim Rushlow
If These Walls Could Speak - Amy Grant
Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen
Love of My Life - Jim Brickman with Michael W. Smith
Dust in the Wind - Kansas
Latter Days - Over the Rhine
Dante's Prayer - Loreena McKennitt
Walk Into This Room - Ed Kowalczyk
Love Moves in Mysterious Ways - Michael English
The Mystic's Dream - Loreena McKennitt
Do You Dream of Me - Michael W. Smith
Possession - Sarah McLachlan
Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers
The First Time I Loved Forever - Lisa Angelle with Ron Perlman
