Tag wranglers can assign themselves to any fandom they want to wrangle, so long as that fandom hasn't already been picked up by someone else. While we're encouraged to wrangle fandoms we are familiar with, you absolutely can work on fandoms you don't know so long as you're comfortable doing a bit of research. For example, one of the fandoms I picked up is a small podcast fandom that I've never actually listened to but my wife absolutely loves it so I ask her questions about characters and concepts to make sure I'm wrangling it correctly!
