Comment on TOS Spotlight: Commercial Promotion

  1. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but what about linking to a free digital download listing on a storefront such as Etsy or Itch.io? Such as for a free digital zine?

In general, you may not link to or mention a site that primarily acts as a commercial storefront, even if you are sharing free content there. Whether a site is considered commercial or non-commercial with monetized features depends on various factors, including how the site promotes itself.

For your specific examples, Etsy is considered a commercial site because its primary function is to sell products. Itch.io is considered a non-commercial site with monetization features, because it prioritizes free content.

      1. That's good to know about itch.io :) I know a lot of digital zines are hosted on there and was concerned what would happen to all of them if it was considered inherently commercial, so good to know that isn't the case.
