Lambert hadn’t meant to spend that long in the shower, but crying in the shower didn’t count as real crying, so he’d taken advantage of that for a while, which felt pretty good actually. Then he hadn’t been able to stop crying, so he hadn’t been able to get out of the shower. Thus: running late.

Geralt jumped. “Hmm,” he said. Because what else was there to say? Yes, I was just daydreaming about running my hands across your back just to feel the softness of your skin? I think about such things sometimes, Jaskier, but you being here on display is making it impossible to think of anything else? He clenched his jaw, and the fist not holding the knife. The knife he slammed back into its sheath.
Instead of saying something he’d regret, he cast his eyes about their little camp again, trying to find something to distract himself. His eyes fell on something shimmering on a flat rock jutting out near the water. “What’s this?” he mused, making his way across the camp. He had to walk very near to Jaskier, but he kept his eyes firmly averted. Mostly.

“Ah!” says the innkeeper, as the rowdy crowd finishes singing a song about Geralt’s heroics and segues seamlessly into a saccharine love ballad about the fairytale romance between the daughter of a baron and a lowly bard. “This song, it’s by the very same bard who sang those songs about you, Master Witcher! So in love, he is, with his beautiful lady.”
“Oh, it’s so romantic,” sighs the barmaid dreamily. “That handsome bard, marrying a noble lady!”
Geralt squints up at them doubtfully. “This…bard,” he says. “Dark hair, blue eyes, never shuts up?”
“Aye,” the innkeeper says. “That’s the one.”
