Summary
Clint’s family is gone. Forever gone. That’s why he does what he does, because there’s nothing left. He kills people who deserve to die, he takes money for it, he fucks Maya regularly for a while because they understand each other enough to know it’s only as much as it is.
But then Clint ends up somehow returning to his other family, the one Clint pretends is less than that because he doesn’t want to be disappointed (given everything that happened, who can blame him?), when Nat shows up after a year. Bruce is on a personal mission with no specific return date. They can’t be down two any longer, she explains, which for her is close to begging.
(In one universe, she lets the lead go. That's a different story and you already know it. In this one, she follows it, and she finds him, and she brings him home. It’s only been a year.)
