Summary
Merlin is well aware that a price has to be paid to ensure that magic is freed. He's also aware of the spear sticking out of his side and Uther charging towards him. Is now the time to pay that price? AU version of Death Song of Uther Pendragon. Part 1 in my Magic Reigns Free Series. This work is a rewrite of a story I wrote years ago on FFN.
SNEAK PEAK: "He has magic and must die," Uther insisted. "If he lives, he will destroy the kingdom I have worked so hard for."
"No," Merlin weakly squeaked.
Arthur glanced over at Merlin. He had heard what his father had said but paid it no mind. Merlin needed to be rescued right now. He could not waste time arguing with the ghost of his father. If he did, Merlin would surely die.
"You had your turn. It's my kingdom now," Arthur stated as he put the horn to his lips and blew.
As soon as his father was gone, Arthur rushed to his manservant's side and got him down as quickly as possible. He laid his body on the floor and yelled for anyone who could possibly hear him as he put pressure on Merlin's wound. Merlin howled in pain before losing consciousness altogether.

Summary
After Merlin loses a patient, he finds that he can't stop himself from blaming Arthur for not doing enough to protect the druids. Unfortunately, the situation only worstens as Arthur's inaction and an innocent death starts off a chain of events that threatens not only Camelot, but all of Albion.
Canon up until "With All My Heart;" story begins approximately a week after they return to Camelot at the end of the episode.
* * *
“Guinevere, I’m sorry, but this is important. If someone’s killing people in Camelot, I have to know who’s to blame—”
“Then look in the bloody mirror!” For a moment, Merlin didn’t realize that he’d spoken aloud; he barely recognized his own voice, vicious in a way that Merlin had never allowed himself to sound in Arthur’s presence.

Summary
Merlin knew what a Sigil represented; a concept he had been introduced to shortly after arriving in Camelot. A marriage proposal of the deepest and most romantic kind, a callback to the traditions of old – for those who appreciated such things.
As such, Arthur’s message was clear.
Keep it safe for my future bride.
And, well, he could do that. No matter what it took.

Summary
Arthur asks Merlin to learn magic to see if it can be trusted in defeating Morgana.
"We want to ask someone to learn magic to see if it can be used without corrupting the soul of the person who uses it. Lancelot suggested you be the person we ask."
Merlin's lips parted a fraction, "He did?"
"Indeed. Something about your heart being pure." Arthur brushed the compliment off with a wave of his hand and straightened in his seat, "I know you're scared of magic so you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to but-"
"I'll do it."Now complete with added prologue and epilogue!

Summary
“Are you sure you can’t do a bit of magic?” Arthur asks. “I promise I won’t behead you for it.”
“Very reassuring,” Merlin says. “Truly, that’s an extreme act of mercy on your part, my Lord. It’s almost enough to convince me you aren’t a dollophead.”
“What use are you,” Arthur mutters.
Or:
The druids call Merlin Emrys. Arthur isn't sure why they think his hapless manservant is some sort of powerful sorcerer, but it's certainly a good way to improve Camelot's relationship with the druids. It's only a little bit of a lie, surely.
Except it turns out that it's not a lie at all.
