Hob knelt before him. Dream pressed his own thumb to his lips and wet it. He took Hob’s chin in the other hand and tilted his face up. “Some do this with ash. To acknowledge death. Mortality. It would not befit you,” he said, and smudged his wet thumb in a sign upon Hob’s forehead. “Now you wear my mark,” he said.
“I have always worn your mark, my Lord,” said Hob.
“Then remember you are mine and to me you shall return,” Dream said.
On the look of stained glass, the smell of churches, the taste of your friend’s mouth, and the feeling of receiving a sacrament several centuries overdue. Or: the entirely accidental but inevitable divinity of Hob's devotion.

And so came it to pass that Durin the Deathless, First of Dwarrow-kind, the Eldest of the Seven Fathers, King of Khazad-dûm, found himself unrelentingly bound to a small chunk of blue stone pocketed by one Belladonna Took on her journey home from a well accomplished adventure.
Years, and multiple adventures later, Belladonna Took – by then Belladonna Baggins – settled into Bag End, and gave birth to a child named Bilbo Baggins, to whom this stone was always meant to belong.
It is with this one small Hobbit that the ghostly Durin is to change the tides of Middle Earth, save his legacy, and rewrite this unwritten history before them.
Additionally/And/Or: In which Durin the Deathless does not accept the finality of his lineage and submits his complaints to Mahal and Yavanna.
Becoming glued to a rock and a Hobbit was not part of his request, but he was Too Vague and forgot to Read the Fine Print.
Also, Hobbits are far too endearing even to Ancient Mostly Dead Monarchs.
Finally, and most importantly, to any Dwarf asking, it isn't technically breaking any rules if the ghost beside you works as a translator for super secret Dwarvish languages.

Summary
(Diverges from canon before Phase Two: assumes Loki escaped from Asgard after the events of 'The Avengers' and has continued to make trouble for the team.)
After a battlefield taunt gets much more of a reaction than expected, Tony realizes that at least some of Loki's vindictiveness may be influenced by outside factors.
Since Asgard's punishments just seem to keep making Loki angrier, and it's Earth that keeps on paying the price, Tony decides to take matters into his own hands. Besides, Loki keeps showing up to talk to him, so he doesn't have much of a choice. He just wishes he knew what the Devil he was doing.
Loki's volatile and dangerous and Tony may have bitten off more than he can chew, but slowly something grows between them. Love isn't a magic cure, but between them maybe they can alleviate the symptoms.

The Gate calculates with one small difference, and Trisha Elric lives - but the cost may be too high for Edward to afford.

A very detailed, very slow exploration of the creators' headcanon through Edward's eyes - and sometimes Roy's - with lengthy discourses on alchemical theory, juicy helpings of political intrigue, a few near-death experiences here and there, and maybe an assassination attempt or two. Explores in detail the political and social spheres of Amestris and beyond in the context of Roy's ladder-climbing, aided by Edward's presence as a researcher. You could consider this a fix-it, but it's more like a highly involved worldbuilding reboot. Long-running, takes time between updates, but chapters are 20-30k long. Be prepared to indulge and suspend your disbelief. Leave canon at the doorstep; this is something else entirely. ]

Ed slouches into the chair and doesn’t bother to keep the contempt to from his voice when he says, “Don’t depend on anything with wings to save you. Things that were made to leave always end up doing so, in the end.”
