The morning sun peaked out from over the clouds, dripping light onto both of them, casting a halo of gold and divination onto Technoblade, the warmth calling Phil into it and calling his wings to soar. But he stays on the ground, watching his son with a smile.
He wishes they could stay there for just a moment, he hopes he’ll always remember this, this feeling between the two of them, the first time they are face to face and glowing with equal parts happiness and equal parts fear.
He thinks—this, this is what other parents must feel.*
Phil started fostering Technoblade when he's merely ten, and since the first time the man laid eyes on him, he didn’t exactly scream “problem child” like his file had said. He looked like a child soldier returning from war; terrified and angry. The poor kid doesn’t look like he’s had a scrap of kindness his whole life and he wants to change that.

Summary
Ever since Karl started disappearing for days on end, Sapnap had only grown more worried for his fiancé. The injuries and fears he came with only increased that worry tenfold.
First he came back with melancholy on his face, reading scriptures of the L'manburg war, as if he were reminiscing. Then he'd been found disassociating, straying from arguments with a sorrowful look on his face. Then soaked in water and bleeding. Then flinching whenever he saw the Egg's vines, crying for people never on the server. Then looking at Sapnap with a sort of hardened mourning. Dodging around Connor, avoiding the hedgehog-onesied man and Connor respecting the distance in kind with a knowledge no one else had.
And now, disassociating and staying silent, seemingly accepting fate.

He can keep them from breaking apart, keep Wilbur and Tubbo from all the pain they've experienced. Tommy can do this for them, even if he's a little bit cracked now. If they get suspicious, well, what was that play Wilbur mentioned once? Hamlet? Tommy can just do what that guy did.

It was just – he’d been so sure that this was a Tale. This Quackity was… different. He had cold eyes and an even colder smile, and was the complete opposite of the warm and laughing fiancé Karl knew. Where his Quackity would’ve greeted him with a hug, this Quackity offered nothing but aloof detachment. Hell, Karl had never even heard of Las Nevadas.
Even so, he hadn’t been able to stand the thought of someone who looked so similar to his Quackity eventually killing him. So, he’d decided to speed up the process a little, and the second ‘Quackity’ turned his back, he tried to throw himself off the top of the Needle.
(He was just going home – to his fiancés.)
He hadn’t expected to be dragged back over the railing and far away from the edge with an endless litany of curses. And it was his Quackity, wide-eyed and terrified, hands desperately clutching at his jumper. “Karl, what the fuck?!”

Through a series of unfortunate events that are Techno's life, he ends up in the custody of his college-aged and practically estranged brother Phil. Saying that it's an adjustment would be the understatement of the year. It could be worse. But it sure as hell could be better too.
