Chapter Text
my name is Speak No Evil. I am a cult leader and have never spoken a word my entire life.
I know, I know. how do I lead the world’s largest religion without me without even speaking? well, truthfully, I don’t. my friends do all of that work for me.
one of my friends is named Hear No Evil, but I like to call him Hear. he’s 17 years old, can’t hear, and his job is to speak to the public and translate prophecies. though, he acts like he is the only person who can understand what The Tower—our goddess—is saying. I can understand it too, yet I can’t tell the public what she’s actually saying! Hear likes to twist her words so no “drama breaks out”, but I know that he is just trying to keep his power over the people.
the other one of my friends is See No Evil. she is 16 years old and blind. her job is to take care of the public—decide whether children born differently deserve to live with us, comfort people in times of trouble, make new rules, etc. the thing is, she loves gossip big time. if someone does something that she doesn’t like, she’ll spill all of their secrets and publicly humiliate them in front of the entire city. sometimes, they can’t take it and end up killing themselves. it’s cruel.
you might be wondering why I don’t just write down what I want to say. well, I was never taught how to read or write. the only languages I know are morse code and sign language. I use morse to talk to See, and I use sign language to talk to Hear. nobody else understands morse or sign—they don’t need to understand it if nobody else is disabled.
by the time you’re reading this, I am either dead, or have changed the world.
this is everything i couldn’t tell you while i was alive.
