Chapter Text
Wesley was very smart for his age.
It was something he’d heard often for as long as he could remember.
When he learned to count to ten, it seemed crazy to him that he had more siblings than that number and the idea took root in his mind that something was definitely wrong with that family. So, when he was old enough to write a sentence in one go, he asked his parents what the secret was to having an infinite family and why some of his siblings were so stupid as to share the same genes.
His parents looked at him tenderly and that night they gave him “the talk.” It had never been a secret at home; he’d just been too young to understand it before.
He was adopted.
All his siblings were.
His adoptive parents had been unable to have children of their own; they were young, had a great fortune, and hearts of gold, so every ten years they would visit an orphanage and adopt several children of all ages to give them love and a good education.
Some of his siblings were already married and living away from home, others were in college, and still others were just babies.
Wesley knew he loved his family - with all their differences - that he was very lucky and that he’d been blessed with the best adoptive parents in the entire universe.
However, ever since then, a thought had begun to linger in his mind. What about his biological parents?
What if they really didn’t want to give him up and were now wondering how he was doing? Wesley wanted to go and tell them that he was fine, not to worry, that they could come eat with his huge family and bring him gifts whenever they wanted.
So from then on, he came up with a plan. On one of the holidays when the whole family gathered for a big lunch, Wesley took Book (his favorite older brother) to his room and sat him down solemnly in the little chair at his desk.
— Bookie, do you know what happened to your real parents?— Wesley asked, his cheeks red and his brow furrowed, as he crossed his arms to lend the conversation a serious tone.
— Hmm, so they gave you the talk, little Wes.— Book took his small hands and shook his head with a kind smile. — My parents were in an accident right before I was born and I was the only one who survived. I had no other family, which is why I ended up at the orphanage. Why are you curious about it?
— I think I want to meet my real parents. I don’t care what caused it, I want them to see that I’ve grown up well.
Book, who was the oldest of the twelve siblings, understood his little brother’s feelings very well. He himself had asked his parents for help in finding out about his origins and it had meant a lot to him, too, to be able to ease that ache in his heart as he grew up. All his siblings were different, some already knew about their parents before being adopted, while others weren’t even interested in meeting them. But Book knew that Wesley was just like him, and he loved his little brother so much that he would grant him each and every one of his wishes.
— Should we ask Mom and Dad for help?
Wesley shook his head.
— Ever since the latest babies arrived they’ve been really exhausted, I don’t want to bother them.
Book closed his eyes, searching for possible solutions. He knew where his parents kept everyone’s records, he remembered reading Wes’s when he got home, but the record only listed the hospital where he was born. However, he knew the perfect person to investigate.
— Wes, do you remember my boyfriend?
— The big guy? — Wesley asked, looking at him intently.
— Yeah, he’s like a secret agent. He can help us.
Skeptical, Wesley nodded excitedly. To him, Force was a clown who was always trying to make him laugh with ridiculous jokes and he seriously doubted he was a good secret agent, but if Book said so, then he was going to believe him blindly.
In reality, Force wasn’t a secret agent, nor a cop, nor anyone with access to classified government information. The poor nurse would have to go into the old archive room at the hospital where he worked and spend hours sifting through shelves full of files just to indulge his little brother in law’s whim and earn a kiss from his cute boyfriend.
