Volume 3: The Chamber of Elemental Secrets

Summary:

After barely surviving their first year at Hogwarts, twins Rob and Mia Myers return believing they are prepared for whatever the Darkness has planned for them. But when mysterious attacks begin to spread through the castle and whispers of a legendary chamber called the Chamber of Secrets begin to spread, the twins discover an ancient threat has been awakened beneath Hogwarts.

As Rob and Mia investigate alongside their friends, Mia must also uncover the mystery of the Cursed Vault of Ice — a place that forces her to confront a shadow from her past she thought she defeated years ago in Narnia.

Meanwhile, Barnaby Lee’s quest for revenge against the Twins Who Lived becomes complicated as he begins to question whether Mia Myers is truly the enemy he was raised to believe she was. But letting go of hatred is difficult when revenge is the only path he has ever known.

With old enemies returning and the Darkness rising once more, Rob and Mia must rely on their bond as twins and Elemental Keepers before the Chamber’s secrets, and possibly their own, destroy everything they have fought so hard to protect.

Chapter Text

Mia blinked as she stared at Kaylee standing in her doorway. She hadn't seen Kaylee in over a year (over fifteen in Narnia, even if she got amnesia and forgot her Birth Realm and everyone in it for over a decade).

"Can I come in?" Kaylee asked, hesitantly.

Mia merely nodded and stepped aside to let Kaylee in. She led her to the kitchen and had her sit down at the round white breakfast table beneath the small chandelier above.

"What would you like? We have tea, both hot and cold, water, hot chocolate, coffee?"

"Just water, please." Kaylee answered.

Mia nodded and returned with two glasses of water and placed one in front of Kaylee before sitting down herself.

A silence filled the room for several moments, each taking a few sips of water before Kaylee broke it.

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what?" Mia pressed, though she knew the answer.

"For abandoning you over fourteen months ago. I wasn't in a good place, and I thought I was hurting you by not being the best friend you needed." Kaylee looked up at Mia and Mia could see tears brimming in her eyes. "I have spent every waking minute since thinking you hated me, but I have missed you. You were always more emotionally mature, and then when you went off to that prestigious boarding school I thought I'd never see you again and get to tell you how sorry I am for hurting you with that letter. I was a bitch, and if I could take it back, to make a different choice by telling you instead of abandoning you I would."

Mia stared at her water. At the time of the "ending" Kaylee had told her to prosper after calling their bond "unhealthily" and Mia had blamed herself for that all these years.

She looked up from her drink and met Kaylee's eyes. "Why now?" She asked, weakly. "You had those three months since that March before the school year ended to come to me."

"I thought you hated me. Normally I am the one being abandoned but knowing that I was the one abandoning you," she sighed, "I have spent months with my therapist processing my choice and... I also wanted to see you again. I'm sorry, Mia. I wish I could go back in time and change things, but... I can't."

Mia looked down again, feeling tears brim in her eyes. For months she'd blamed herself, but now everything started to make sense and she could feel the familiar love she had always felt for her best friend returning. The love that kept her walls down. The love that when lost led Mia to hardening her heart and rebuilding her walls once more.

"I forgive you..." She finally said. Normally she'd still refuse, hold a grudge, but Kaylee had been her best friend and Mia wanted either closure or she wanted to make amends. Despite blaming herself for over a year a part of her always held out hope that Kaylee would one day return to her life.

She chuckled weakly, doing her best to keep her composure. "I missed you too. I am sorry you were going through all that."

"And I am sorry for breaking the vow I made to you when we became best friends. When I vowed to never abandon you."

Mia placed the water aside and reached a hand out and Kaylee took it. It felt right, like old times when Mia and Kaylee use to hug and go around their Muggle School together. When despite her trauma Mia had never imagined being abandoned by the person she trusted most outside her family.

"Cookie?" Mia suddenly asked, standing up and walking to where they had their Costco chocolate chip cookies and grabbed two. She placed one on a plate and walked back and placed it in front of Kaylee. "I remember how much you loved them."

"Well, they are heaven." Kaylee smiled before taking a bite.

"Indeed they are," Mia agreed.

They talked for what felt like hours; catching up on life, Mia told her about Hogwarts, though she didn't mention the fact that it was a school for witchcraft and wizardry, and Kaylee in return told Mia about what had happened to her and what her life has been since. She even mentioned some new filming she'd been doing and new paintings she'd done.

When Kaylee finally had to leave to return home before dark she and Mia exchanged a hug, but right before she could leave Mia called out to her.

"Kayls!" She called, using her old nickname for Kaylee.

"Yes, Mia?" Kaylee asked, turning back around.

"Would you write, please? Just send your letters to my dad and he'll send them to me." Mia requested.

Kaylee smiled. "I would like that, Mia. I hope to see you more over this summer."

"As do I." Mia waited until Kaylee had disappeared before closing her door and leaning against the glass and breathed a heavy sigh she didn't even know she was holding in.

'It feels like a breath of fresh air amongst the Darkness I have had to fight.' Mia thought before walking up to her room. She walked towards her desk where a small light pink rope bracelet with a picture of her and Kaylee from their first Halloween together lied in the small orb in the center. She picked the bracelet before slipping it on in front of her gold bracelet with three diamond-shaped light pink gems in the center--her Contacting Bracelet.

Mia reached into her white dresser to take a nightgown out when she heard a crack behind her. Mia instantly teleported her bow and arrows in her hand, nocking an arrow and whipped around, but the tip of her arrow was met with the long thin nose of a creature with bat-like ears and bulging green eyes the size of tennis balls. It seemed to be wearing what looked like an old pillowcase, with rips for arm and leg holes.

"Hello, ma'am." The creature greeted.

"W-Who are you?" Mia stuttered, not lowering her bow.

"Dobby, ma'am. Just Dobby. Dobby the house-elf." He introduced.
