Work Text:

Sun watched Dahlia as he practiced magic. He looked so… elegant. Sun shook his head, no, men can’t look ‘elegant’. He watched the flower and sighed, leaning his head in his hands as he sat in the sand.

Why did he even like wearing dresses? Weren’t they meant for women? And plus, all it does is make you look like a fool. It was stupid. Not that he’s calling Dahlia stupid! It’s just… Weird.

“Yes?”

Sun jumped, not noticing how close Dahlia had gotten, moving back a little. Dahlia moved back as well, a smile on its face

“Did I scare you?”

“Wha- Uh, yes!”

Dahlia just laughed, a large smile on their face. He looked beautiful, so pretty and glowing. But that was all terms he’s only ever used for women. What is Dahlia doing to him?

“Sun? Is something on your mind? I’m not Carmine, but I think I can help, at least a little bit.”

Sun smiled at that, but it quickly disappeared, as he looked away.

“Yeah, uhm. I don’t want to be rude though.”

“Is it about my way of dressing?”

Sun nodded, still looking away, a small bit of blush on his cheeks from embarrassment.

Dahlia chuckled, sitting down next to Sun, crossing their legs out in front of themself. They looked up at the sky, the stars shining bright enough to light up the small section of beach they were at. They were both quiet, Dahlia waiting for Sun to ask his question. Finally,

“Why do you dress like that?”

Dahlia just smiled more, looking back at Sun

“Well. It’s comfortable. After being forced to dress a certain way for ages, I wanted to try something new. So I did. At first it was super uncomfortable, but the Suns at the sanctuary made me feel safe. Some even taught me how to do makeup. It took a while to get used to, but I eventually felt more confident than I ever did. Of course, I got asked if I’m trans, but I just felt like, being a woman doesn’t fit me.”

Sun nodded along, listening intently, watching every move Dahlia made, over-analyzing every little thing.

“Why do you ask?”

“Well, it’s just. You seem so comfortable, so.. whats the word, confident in everything you do.”

Sun turned away, not wanting to see Dahlia’s face when he confessed his sins.

“I tried it once. Putting a dress on. I just, got made fun of. By, uh. Moon.”

Dahlia made a sound. Not one of surprise, or anger, or happiness. Just, a simple sound. When Sun turned back around to face Dahlia, they had a smile on anemone’s face

“Wanna try it again?”
