Chapter Text
It's a quiet night-- or at least, as quiet as New York ever can be-- and Orange exhales, breathing in slowly as he makes his way up the roof access stairs, relieved that Hook's hang out isn't the fire escape anymore. At least, not as often anyway. He pushes the door open and steps out onto the flat surface of the roof, letting it quietly swing shut behind him as he turns towards Hook's usual spot. Sure enough, his boyfriend's form is visible in the faint moonlight, and Orange wanders over, hands in his pockets as he stands at Hook's feet and stares down at him.
Hook doesn't look away from the stars twinkling overhead and Orange casts a glimpse over his shoulder before he kneels down with a grunt, his knees not liking this movement at all, sprawling out next to Hook and looking up at the all-encompassing sky overhead. Even with the light pollution all around them, it's a beautiful sight, and Orange is reminded once more of just why Hook kept coming up here more often after their landlord remodeled the area, adding weatherproof furniture and the firepit that's so popular in the colder months. Why he'd chose it for his interview after rejoining The Opps.
Hook exhales after a moment and turns to look at Orange, tapping his little finger against Orange's thumb. "Miss me?"
"Always," Orange says, drawing his eyes away from the wonder overhead to turn to meet Hook's eye. "Are you ok?"
Hook shrugs. "Fine," he says, Orange thinking about how sincere that one word had sounded. Not very, and he considers calling Hook out on it but before he can get the chance, Hook rolls over and rests his head on Orange's shoulder. "Or at least I will be."
This is closer to the truth, something Orange can buy, wants to believe in. While Orange and his teams had won both matches this past weekend, one of which was against Hook and his team actually, Hook hadn't had the same luck, walking out empty handed after two title opportunities hours apart. He hadn't technically lost either, but Orange knows that it's been eating at him for the past few days, and he's glad that they both had had Wednesday off, allowing Hook time to decompress, come up here, take his mind off of things, and allowing Orange to be there to listen, to support him, to try to cheer him up.
Hook sighs as Orange reaches up and carefully begins to run his fingers through Hook's hair, soothing, slow, comforting. "That title should've been mine," he murmurs into Orange's collar. "It's not fair."
"I know it's not," Orange says, remembering how it'd felt to sit backstage and watch, numb, helpless, as Cogar had approached Hook with the tazer, just for Hook to move just enough that the ref got taken out with it instead, Cogar so distracted that Hook had been able to submit him to the Redrum. Watching with growing dread as Cogar had tapped desperately, just for Hook to realize that there was no referee to call it, then all of the nonsense that had followed. That had kept Hook from the accolade he'd earned, however unofficially. "Your knee ok?"
"Yeah," Hook mutters, carefully moving his leg. He'd regained strength in it by the next day, barely limping while backstage at Wrestle Dream, but Orange had remained concerned, knowing that two matches so close together would've been a lot to ask from anyone physically, much less mentally.
Orange presses a kiss to his forehead. "Good," he says, letting his mind drift as he continues to run his fingers through Hook's hair, staring back up at the stars. He sees something out of the corner of his eye and tenses up, turning to look. There's another followed almost immediately by a third, and he blinks. "Whoa," he says. "Hook, is that a shooting star?"
"Huh?" Hook lifts his head and looks in the direction Orange is gazing and watches until another sharp streak crosses the sky. "Holy shit, I think it is," he says.
"Make a wish if you see another one," Orange murmurs, the two of them watching the nightsky intently.
"There's another one," Hook breathes out, and the two of them fall silent, Orange quietly mouthing his wish towards the flash of light. "Did you wish on it?"
"Yes," Orange says. "Did you?"
"Yeah," Hook says, resting his head back on Orange's shoulder. "Guess we can't say what we wished for though, huh?"
"No, it wouldn't come true then," Orange says with a small smile. He suspects that he and Hook had made the same wish, anyway. That soon Orange won't be the only one in their house lugging around a heavy title belt.
