Chapter Text
“Kara… Kara, sunshine, Kal-el is calling.”
Kara stirs with a groan, reaching for the warm hand on her shoulder. “Hmm, ignore him,” she mutters, eyes still closed.
“You know he worries when you don't answer him.” “Then you answer. He loves you and I don't wanna get up yet.” Kara hears a small scoff, and then feels a warm kiss press into her temple before the warmth recedes as Kara heard footsteps leaving the room, followed by the clacking of claws on the hardwood floors.
She lays there a few minutes longer, before sitting up abruptly, pushing her messy hair out of her face. She finally gets out of bed, slipping out of the bedroom quietly. Kara's heart skips when she sees you in the kitchen, Clark's face visible on the screen in the corner and Krypto at his good bowl, you having just fed him.
“Nice of you to finally join us, Kara.” She can hear Clark's voice. She grumbles something vaguely resembling a greeting to Clark as she approaches you. “Good morning,” you murmur, strong arms looping around her waist as you press a warm kiss to her cheekbone. Kara smiles, momentarily forgetting her cousin's presence over the call as she kisses you.
Clark clears his throat, looking slightly uncomfortable as Kara looks at his image on the screen again. “Why are you calling us at..” she pauses, looking at the clock, “7 in the morning?”
Clark at least has the decency to look guilty, “Well I have to work early today but I wanted to check in on you. How are you doing, Kara?” “I'm fine?” Kara doesn't bother to hide the tinge of annoyance in her voice. “Everythings good on our end Kal-el. Thank you for calling.” You interject, half blocking Kara as you come into view of the camera again.
Clark takes the hint, bidding his goodbyes before ending the call. Kara pulls a face the second the call ends, face dropping to your shoulder when you get near enough, “I hate when he does that.” You laugh, arms looping around her shoulders, “he just cares. A lot. Sometimes too much. It's not too long ago we were out in space doing gods know what.”
Kara doesn't respond, thinking back to those adventures. It had only been a few weeks since the two of you had decided to mostly stay on earth. Since she had almost lost Krypto and the two of you had met Ruthye.
“Do you want coffee, sunshine?” You ask, to which she nods. “In a minute though,” she lifts her head, kissing you again. With no Clark to interrupt it lasts longer. Kara's hands rest on your hips, pulling you in as one of your hands moves to grasp the back of her neck. “i love you,” Kara whispers into the space between you as she breaks the kiss, the kryptonese flowing from her lips better than English ever will. “I love you too.” You respond in kind.
“Okay, coffee.” You state as you pull away, turning to pour her a cup of coffee. She watches as you move through the kitchen.
“Kara,” her mother yells, “the guests are here.” Kara is already bolting down the hall into the common area, her face lighting up when she sees you and your parents. You take a seat beside one another, fingers laced under the table as your parents talk and you eat.
“Your coffee, sunshine.” You press the warm mug into her hands, pressing yet another kiss to the side of her head. You let go when she has a hold of it, before moving into the living room. She follows a moment later, Krypto following her. She slides into the space beside you as you turn on the TV, her dog settling near her feet. There's a news channel on, the reporter talking about, unsurprisingly, the two of you and Clark, or more specifically about the recent uptick in you and Kara not only aiding Clark, but appearing on your own, always as a pair.
“These heroes have been seen almost daily. Of course, you all know Superman, and you may know about Supergirl and her companion, who social media has dubbed ‘Superstar’. It is well known, based on many interviews given to the Daily Planet, that Supergirl is the cousin of Superman. However the relation between the two and Superstar is unclear. She appears to be Kryptonian as well, but with a different symbol and colors people question the presence of any relation at all. Well, in the most recent interview with Superman, he has revealed some new information. He has told the Daily Planet, ‘She is not related to us. On Krypton there were different houses, or that's what they were called at least. They were different families, with different jobs on our planet. Superstar, as I've learned some of you call her, is from a different house than Supergirl and I. That's why her symbol is different.’ Now, another question stands, if she is not related to either of them, where does the connection come from? Why did both women appear at the same time? For the time being, we don't know, but the Daily Planet seems confident that they will soon obtain an interview with at least one of the newer heroes.”
“Are you gonna give them an interview?” You tease, leaning your head on Kara's. She scoffs, “that's all you, starshine. I don't think they'd like me talking very much.” You smile, “you're not exactly the most approachable.” “You love me anyway.” Kara smiles back, especially as you lean in for another kiss. Her hands move to the back of your head as you guide her down to lay flat on the couch.
Kara hums as your hands slide to her waist, just under the hem of her shirt, hands warm against the bare skin. She sighs at the way your thumbs brush over her stomach, allowing you to slide your tongue past her lips. You don't part as she shifts, hooking her legs around your hips. Finally you pull away to grin down at her, a teasing look in your eyes, “I'm not going anywhere, don't need to hold on so tightly,” before you start to move down her jaw, nipping at her skin lightly. She lets out a small laugh, head tilting back to make space for you.
Suddenly Krypto bolts up, jumping onto the couch above Kara's head, barking at the two of you. You both curse as Kara starts laughing, “Damn it Krypto, every time.” You let her up, both of you still laughing.
