Chapter Text
The birds were chirping as the sun was rising, the leftover drops of water clung to the leaves and the grass outside, it took a moment for you to wake up from your absolutely annoying and horrendous alarm. God the ringing of that clock was giving me more of a headache then I thought it would today, so you simply feel around your night stand till you grab your alarm clock and shove it under your pillow to shut it up. It does eventually stop at some point
well you sit up and swing your legs off the bed to stand, the floor boards creak and groan as you get up and stretch and the joints make a small but satisfying ‘pop’ sound, then you’re greeted with the familiar smell of old wood, dust, and maybe a bit of mold… yeah that’s been an issue since you moved in here and it keeps getting covered with paint… anyways. You walk over to your small kitchenette to make yourself a cup of joe because tomorrow you have a job interview at this local dinner. You hope they will hire you because getting a job nowadays is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack…
As you make yourself some coffee, you glance over at your calendar hung up on the wall right next to your dingy refrigerator. You have to do a double take as you read the date… it says: 1943, September the 13th-...
Wait…
The 13th!? God damn it! The interview is today!
you rush around your apartment to try and find the clothes you planned on wearing to the interview, you check your wardrobe, the living room, the kitchen, heck even under your bed and you were still struggling to find everything! as you stumbled about finally finding your best shirt that wasn’t stained (you ain’t doin’ laundry till Sunday.) and your best pair of pants, eventually you check the wall cloak in the living room well you drink your coffee… and then proceeded to nearly spit out your coffee because you are about to be late…
you down the whole cup in one go and sprint out the darn door, your footsteps echo though the halls and down the stairwell as you rush outside you are quickly blinded by the sun, you grumble to yourself as you quickly cover your eyes and notice that one of your neighbors named John was nearby.
“oi John! you got an extra pair of cheaters on you?” you called out to him in a bit of a rushed tone, you’re about to be late in the next five or so minutes if you don’t run over to that dinner
“no sorry kid” he shook his head and seemed apologetic and simply shrugged as he headed inside the apartment building, well that was helpful…
you run down the sidewalk as you nearly bump into multiple people as you sprint past strangers, why did today have to be damn busy today? People, autos, and buildings blur past you as you run, you nearly run into an auto. How advanced robotics engineering is nowadays is always baffling… plus they are taking up jobs because they are really good at doing tasks they are given. But not all are like that at least, and it's interesting to see how some designs and models are more advanced than others… but you can’t really fret over that right now because you have limited time on your hands right now.
you round a corner and skid to a halt once you make it to the dinner, you take a moment to catch your breath… man you need to stop getting sauced before going to a job interview because those hangovers don't really fix themselves. Anyways you walk in and simply hope that this interview goes well and hey, you have some decent experience in working as a waitress so this should go well… right?...
you push open the door and the bell chimes once you open it and enter the place, it looks like it’s in decent shape at least which is a bit surprising nowadays but these guys must get some good business around the area then… your thoughts are interrupted by a young and sweet looking girl in a medium skirt and light blue and white striped tee shirt, and an apron over top of it all. She had curly blonde hair and beautiful hazel eyes and had a welcoming smile.
“well hey there hun! What brings a dish like you here?” she said with a kind grin as she walked over to properly introduce herself to you properly instead in the middle of the dinner “names Betty, what's yours?” you gave her your name and she seemed to light up at it “ooh that is such an ace name! What brings you here? Planning on ordering something or here for an interview?” she tilted her head to the side a tad bit in curiosity “I’m here for an interview… know where the boss is?” you returned her kind smile because your brain was finally catching up now that the coffee was finally kicking in “oh yeah, he’s in the back just past the kitchen and to the left past the freezer room” she jerked her thumb behind herself past the counter towards two double hinged doors
“thanks, you’re quite the cookie yourself” you said with a warm smile and then headed to the back of the dinner, you walked past a few cooks and the freezer and took a left… welp… lets hope this goes well.
after about twenty minutes…
welp… that went about as bad as it could possibly get… seriously blew that interview. Now you are walking back to your apartment with your head down cast as the sky gets more and more crummy as you walk, you walk past the town bulletin board and nearly miss a “in need of hire!” poster stapled on there so you take a few steps back and lean backwards a little to read the poster… It was a farm in need of some farm hands, and due to this town being mostly filled with posh bigots not many people probably didn’t look twice at it.
you read over what they are looking for and you have the experience they needed for the job, your family used to own a farm and you helped do most of the work and even worked for a few other farms, you were good at herding cattle and honestly… This is just the luck you needed. And let's be real, you need this probably the last time luck might strike you again… there was a number on the bottom so you grabbed a spare pen from your pocket (always forgot to take them out before washing them) and wrote the number on the back of your hand. You take a quick glance back up at the poster and see one more requirement needed…
Why should you need to know average to advanced mechanical repairs?
