Work Text:
Rinne could not believe how this night has turned out.
Well, not entirely. Of course, they'd be drunk after bar-hopping across several alleys in the city. It wasn't a new concept for him. There are mornings he'd wake up on the streets after a night of getting piss drunk.
What's new is the fact that he is the one who isn't drunk this time around.
And the fact that the drunk one is HiMERU, out of all the people he knows.
Rinne was gracious enough to hail them both a taxi back to HiMERU's place. He wasn't sure if he had enough power to carry them all the way back there, and he's pretty sure it'll be a spectacle to see a 178cm-tall guy be carried by another guy. While they are idols, having many eyes during private time is not something that Rinne likes. And really, he's just saving their asses from the potential of things getting worse.
"Geez. And here I thought I'd be the one who's gonna be drunk because it's my birthday." Rinne groans as he slings HiMERU's arm over his shoulder. The way towards his apartment was a bit of a challenge, but they thankfully made it just fine through Rinne's determination.
Like a practiced routine he knows like the back of his hand, Rinne fishes his copy of HiMERU's keys from his pocket and treads through the apartment and straight to his room. Well, it'll be more embarrassing to lose his way when he's been here far too many times before, right?
HiMERU groans into Rinne's ears when the latter sets him rather roughly down his bed. In any other scenario, Rinne would've found it hot and alluring, but really, all's in his mind right now is to nurse HiMERU back to sobriety (or at least, make sure he'll rest easy after drinking so much).
He makes a quick run to the kitchen and fetches some essentials. When he comes back to HiMERU's room, he's already sitting up, leaning back to a nest of pillows on his headboard. Okay good. That's one less step to taking care of him.
"Merumeru, water." Rinne's voice is unusually quiet — caring even; a far cry from his loud guffaws and teasing voice he often displays towards his peers. If HiMERU was more sober, he would've already teased him at how he's hearing such a rare thing. But then again, if HiMERU was sober, Rinne doubts that this side of him would come out at all.
"…Amagi." HiMERU tugs on Rinne's sleeves, looking up at him with barely open eyes. "…Please come here beside me."
Dropping the HiMERU name, huh? It seems like this night is a showcase of each other's rare sides. And while Rinne is quite happy with that, he doesn't easily relent with HiMERU's words. "Drink some water first."
HiMERU is quiet for a moment, staring at the glass of water that Rinne is holding up in front of him. When he finally comes to, he looks up again at Rinne, a hint of pleading apparent in his amber eyes. "…If I drink some water, will Amagi join me in bed?"
What in the world is this situation? HiMERU has never been clingy like this. In fact, Rinne knows that HiMERU would rather die than act lovey-dovey with him. Rinne wishes HiMERU could give him a break from all these unusual scenarios. His heart can only handle too much cuteness, yeah? "Okay, 'kay, sure. Just drink this water first before talking, yeah? Come on. Be a good boy and listen to Rinne-chan."
HiMERU lets out a small laughter as he puts his hands over Rinne's that holds the glass. Thank God that Rinne didn't drop the glass right on that contact. "Fufu~ Rinne-chan… Amagi is quite an adorable person, isn't he?"
Yeah, no. That should be my line. Rinne can only sigh as he watches HiMERU gulp down his fluids. This kind of behavior can't possibly be just because of the liquor, right? And even if they've been in a friends with benefits relationship for quite a while now, Rinne isn't narcissistic enough to assume that HiMERU's just hiding behind the alcohol for some sort of an ulterior motive to mess with his head.
"I've finished." HiMERU tilts his head upwards. "Amagi. Please fulfill your promise and sit beside me ♪"
"What's with that tone?" Rinne only shakes his head, putting down the glass on the nightstand and heeding HiMERU's demands. He wonders if he would throw a tantrum if he didn't do it, but then again, he's too tired to even entertain the silly idea. "Here ya go." Rinne plops down beside HiMERU. "You're so demanding, Merumeru. But just so you know, we aren't having sex when you're like this, oka—!?"
What the helllll! Rinne freezes in both his movements and words when HiMERU suddenly wraps his arms around his torso, burying his face on Rinne's chest and finding his comfortable place there.
Okay. This isn't the first time they've hugged. Why is Rinne panicking like this? Well, maybe it's because of the fact that most of their hugs are often just out of reluctance or something that Rinne would teasingly initiate just to play with HiMERU. And maybe it's because of the fact that HiMERU is initiating it and looks so comfortable and satisfied with it!
"…Merumeru? You're acting really weird." Rinne finally manages to speak out a part of his thoughts after not being able to contain them. Still, despite the bewilderment in his side, he puts a hand on HiMERU's back. An awkward touch, but a gentle touch nonetheless.
HiMERU doesn't answer for a while. Rinne thinks that he must have already fallen asleep with how quiet he is, but his chest rumbles as HiMERU mumbles. "…air."
"What..?"
HiMERU raises his head, glaring at Rinne. "…I think it's unfair."
If he had an ability to engrave a question mark on his face to convey how confused he is, Rinne would've already done it. "? What's unfair?"
"Greeting."
Rinne raises an eyebrow. "Greeting?"
"…I think it's unfair that Shiina got to greet Amagi first for his birthday."
Huh?
"Huh?"
"…I was looking forward to it." Is that a pout of HiMERU's lips? "I wanted to be the first one to do it. Greet Amagi, that is."
Is that why you got yourself drunk?! Rinne can't believe this kind of childishness and absurdity from HiMERU — not even in his wildest dreams! — and yet here he is, lamenting about the fact that someone beat him over something so simple.
He takes his phone and looks at the time. 11:53pm. The day is almost ending, and here he is, trapped within HiMERU's embrace just because he's sulking. Rinne doesn't know what kind of life he's lived in the past, but if this is some sort of karma from that, he doesn't know if he should be thankful or regretful.
A hand suddenly pries away Rinne's phone on his hands, throwing it on the other side of the bed. Before Rinne can even voice out a protest, his face is suddenly trapped between two forceful hands. HiMERU's eyebrows are deeply furrowed as he looks at Rinne. "How dare you, Amagi. I'm right here in front of you and you're still looking at your phone? Are you waiting on someone else's greetings?"
"No, no, I'm not? Where are you getting all these ideas, seriously?" Rinne frowns.
"Then please focus on me."
"I don't even have a choice with how you got me trapped here."
HiMERU chuckles, loosening his hold on Rinne's cheeks. "It's all according to plan then ♪"
Rinne can't even tease him about his silly words. "Then? What are you planning now?"
"Greet Amagi."
"Uh huh. You already did that in the stream earlier."
"That's right. But I will do it again." A lazy, mellow smile appears on HiMERU's lips. Rinne swears he'd pass out if HiMERU continues with this. "Until the day changes. That last greeting will be mine, okay?"
Rinne laughs. "No one's taking it away from you."
"How would I know? Amagi has way too many people in his life."
"Comes with the job, yeah?"
HiMERU nods, seeming to accept that explanation.
"And then?"
"Happy birthday, Amagi."
Rinne nods, running his fingers through HiMERU's hair. "Yeah, thanks."
11:58pm.
HiMERU returns the favor and plays with the tips of Rinne's hair. "Happy birthday, Amagi." His voice has noticeably gotten softer, making Rinne smile.
Rinne just lets HiMERU play with his hair. He's already trapped here, isn't he? Might as well just enjoy this unusual sight in front of him. "Thanks, Merumeru."
"…Happy birthday, Amagi."
"Mhm."
HiMERU turns quiet after that. Has he already had enough of the greetings? Aw. Rinne's beginning to have fun listening to HiMERU's repeated but endearing greetings. But oh well, he still had a lot of fun, and he'll be sure to tease HiMERU about this when he's sober.
"Amagi."
"Oh? Not yet done?"
HiMERU shakes his head, glancing at the clock on the wall. "The day isn't over yet. I still have a minute."
Rinne just nods, smiling at HiMERU. "Okay, let's hear the last greeting then."
"Please come closer. Quickly."
"So demanding…" Rinne, despite his protest, heeds the instruction and leans closer to HiMERU. "…Is this okay?"
Rinne gets his answer from the soft touch that reaches for his cheeks. Proximity isn't a new thing for Rinne and HiMERU, but Rinne's quick heartbeats ring in his ears with the way HiMERU looks at him. There's a beat. And another. And another. Rinne should breathe; and yet, he can't bring himself to do so under the tension of HiMERU's gaze. Seriously, he's way too good-looking — the type that captivates your attention and holds it tight for way too long. Rinne has never balked from telling HiMERU how attractive he is, but sometimes he thinks that his words are far from enough to equate how really beautiful he is.
"Amagi."
His voice effectively snaps Rinne out of his stupor. "Yeah?"
"Happy birthday. I'm really glad you were born."
Before Rinne could even process HiMERU's heartfelt words, his mind immediately goes blank when he feels a gentle lips upon his own. Rinne visibly freezes, eyes shot wide in surprise.
They have never kissed, or if they did, they were mere unintentional brushes of lips during sex that held no meaning; that was the established rule they had to themselves. And yet here they are, sharing a warm kiss that has Rinne's heart go crazy in his chest. He doesn't have the heart to push HiMERU away.
No, that isn't right. It's not that he doesn't have the heart to push HiMERU away. Perhaps the truth lies in the fact that he doesn't want to push HiMERU away. It isn't a matter of courage; rather, it is a matter of desire.
The desire to hold him like this. The desire to kiss him like this.
And Rinne would be a huge idiot to deny himself that, even just for tonight.
Unfortunately for him, it goes as quick as it comes before he can even savor it. HiMERU soon pulls away, head drooping back down to Rinne's shoulder as he finally succumbs to fatigue and drunkenness. Poor Rinne is left stunned, staring at the wall opposite to them as his cheeks burn redder than when he's pissed drunk. He shortly wonders if HiMERU can hear how crazy fast his heartbeat is right now; maybe he is even lulled with it. How messed up.
"What the hell…" Rinne covers up his burning cheeks, looking down at the culprit that traps him in a heavy embrace. How convenient it was for him to just sleep after his attack, leaving Rinne entirely to himself and his thoughts that are running at full speed despite how late it is. He had a solo work scheduled for later, but it is incredibly tempting to postpone it for another day. Maybe he can ask HiMERU on what just happened. But then again, maybe HiMERU will kill him if he reminded him of what happened tonight.
…Whatever. He has enough on his plate right now. He'll leave that decision for later's him.
For now he lets himself get trapped in his thoughts, along with HiMERU's embrace that doesn't seem to want to let go.
