Chapter Text
Ava doesn’t like imprisoning people. It’s unproductive, inefficient, and only serves to cause conflict among the only people left to get along.
She also dislikes paperwork.
Today is going to force her to do both.
Because when an unidentified craft makes its way into COI territory, carrying a human and… some kind of alien, both go in holding cells.
Rather, the human goes in a holding cell. The alien goes in a lab, because they’re not sure whether the holding cell actually has what it needs to keep it alive. Both of them kick up a huge fuss, and the alien even rams its piping-hot glass terrarium into the guards’ legs. Their guards end up in the infirmary.
Ava is trying very hard not to take it personally. She’s never been good at that.
There’s the convict in the cell across from their… guest. He’s going on a little trip tomorrow, getting welded into the SM-13 and lowered down to explore the blood ocean on AT-5. Ava tried to get some of the remaining scientists and mechanics to take a look at the submarine, since it was so busted up from last time, but only one welder agreed to work on repairs.
She could have pushed harder for everyone else to help him.
She didn’t.
At the end of the day, asking them to do extra work for the sake of Eden’s Butcher was more than she was willing to risk.
There’s a lot of things about her job she dislikes.
She hates unnecessary risk.
It’s going to be a long fucking week.
