Today was going to be a good day, Axl Low could just tell.
He held a white box, the cake inside still fresh, and happily made his way down the street. He was on his way to meet his best friend, Pompompurin, for a very special occasion. They were going to have a picnic!
Axl was careful with the box, sure to not accidentally shake around the cake too much. Their favorite cake was inside, strawberry shortcake. Axl was excited and hungry, Pompompurin was supposed to bring the main food. He wondered what it could possibly be, maybe something savory?
The breeze was nice, keeping him cool as the sun warmed his skin. He was more than happy to let it blow his hair, it felt good.
When he finally made it to the park, he wasted no time looking for Pompompurin. He saw his best friend, sitting in the shade on a pale cream blanket.
“Hello Pompompurin! I’m here, I brought cake for the two of us to share!” Axl said as he walked up to the small dog and set it down.
“Hi Axl Low!!” Pompompurin excitedly greeted him back as the man sat down. “Oh wow! A whole cake! It’s like it’s secretly one of our birthdays.”
They look at you.
“Oh, well that makes sense!” Axl shrugged and turned to the food that decorated the blanket.
Sandwiches, cut up fruit, the cake, a pitcher of water, and plates and cups and utensils took up the center of the blanket.
It was everything to make the perfect picnic.
Pompompurin happily served up three plates, placing generous portions of each item. He passes a plate to Axl, stealing a little off of it to eat as he does so. The other plate was placed off to the side.
Axl pours out three cups of water and they’re passed out as well.
Axl and Pompompurin happily enjoyed the food on their plates. They ate all their food while they talked.
“I’m so happy you got us a cake to share! I’m so excited!” Pompompurin said after he finished his plate.
“I’ll cut it right now then so we can eat!” Axl said and opened the box. He carefully pulled it out and cut it up into 6 big slices. He dished them out to everyone and was about to dig in before Pompompurin stopped him.
“Wait!” Pompompurin exclaimed, Axl paused with the fork already halfway to his mouth.
“What is it?” Axl asked curiously.
“You’re forgetting something important!!” Pompompurin said.
Oh, right!
Axl set down his plate and fork and pulled out a candle.
He placed it on the third slice, yours, and lit it.
“Happy birthday!” Pompompurin and Axl Low said and grinned at you.
