Chapter Text
The final practice of Night Raven College’s routine for the VDC ( Vocal and Dance competition ) had just finished. After that practice, everyone was ecstatic! Even for a quick moment… Vil's eyes flickered with a ravenous hunger to win. He finally felt as if he'll finally be able to truly be number one. That he, Vil Schoenheit, will surpass the one that eclipses him over and over and over again. Vil sat down along with his group within the seats meant for the future audience. As the group sat and relaxed, the music started playing a sweetly sickening tune all of a sudden. As the instrumental continued on, the fairest one of all appeared on stage along with his cute and annoyingly innocent self along with his little friends. They all sang a cutesy little song, with no coronation in movement nor in harmony. They were simply just being blissful ignorant. It was utterly appalling! It was… utterly genius… and Vil had to accept that hard cold fact, along with the fact he wouldn't be able to compete with Negie's routine at all. This thought kept spiraling out throughout Vil's mind, it kept playing over along with all the times he's been so close to being in the center of the light. But no, Vil Schoenheit will only ever remain second compared to the fairest one of all. Hair dark as night, skin white as snow, and lips naturally as red as blood. Compared to him, Vil felt like wasn't even human looking; felt for the millionth time, ugly whenever he was mentioned. He felt completely and totally disgusted in himself.
As Neige's performance finished, Vil felt his group staring at him. “Hey Vil, are you okay?” Kalim asked. “Im fine.” Vil said in an overly monotone voice. “We still have a great chance of winning you know!” Deuce shouted from a few seats down. “Yeah their performance wasn't even all that good to be honest!” Epel said from besides him, attempting to cheer him up. “What Epel said, don't let them mess with you. We definitely got this in the bag man!” Ace adding on to what the other freshmen were saying. Only adding to Vil's self pity and assortment of other vile emotions slowly twisting into shape. “Don't lie. We all know that their performance was utterly magnificent. It'll hurt less when you accept this fact.” Vil refused to look at any of them, kept staring at the floor so he didn't have to look into their eyes, all of which were filled with pity. “Guys, please stop talking. You're not making the situation any better. Vil, you've prepared us the most you could. What happens happens, it's that simple. “ Jamil started trying to bring a sense of calm and order within the group's atmosphere. “ Roi du Poison, Monsieur Multi is right! There's nothing else that could be done besides give it our all! With you guiding us we're destined to shine our way to the top!” Rook said with his usual amount of charisma. “ Please Rook, just stop… you don't have to lie… I know that you thought that performance was great so please just stop lying to me… I'm gonna head back to the dressing room, I need to be alone for a while…” “Roi du Poison! Please!” “Vil! Wait! You're only gonna feel worse if you isolate yourself! Please let us come with you!” Kalim says as he rushes over to Vil. “ Kalim please, perhaps being alone is what he needs, there's gonna be a bunch of people later.” Jamil looks at Kalim as he frowns and carries a worried expression. “Vil wait!” Vil turns to see Epel holding about a glass bottle filled to the brim with fresh luxurious apple juice sourced from his family's farm. “Take this, I don't know if you'll drink it… but having fresh apple juice makes me feel better when I'm down.” Vil took the bottle of juice and simply smiled at Epel with sorrow deeply hidden with his violet eyes. Vil said his thanks and quickened his pace to be alone in his dressing room.
Vil sat the apple juice down on the table and sat down at his makeup desk. Staring directly at the mirror, only noticing the slight imperfections of his person. One after another kept appearing in his field of vision. That's when the thoughts started spilling out everywhere all at once. His mind tells him to simply give up. There's no point in even trying anymore. That Neige is better at everything than you, better looking, better singer, better actor, and worse of all, a better person overall. The thoughts signaled his eyes to attempt to release tears, but he couldn't let that happen, he didn't want to possibly look uglier than he already looked and felt. He couldn't contain these feelings in a normal way, so he started to break things. He started with an eye pencil all the way to breaking his chair by throwing it to the side. When Vil caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, he couldn't help but laugh from how tired he was. The only thing still intact in the room was the table which held the bottle of apple juice on top of it. Vil looked at that juice for longer than he should have. There was something about it that infatuated him, perhaps it was how pure and clear it was. Given to him with purity, for him to only dirty it with his disgustingness. Something that pure could only be enjoyed by someone as equally pure. That's when an idea comes about from the darkest part of his mind. In order to finally achieve his goal of being number one… he must take matters into his own hands. Because by now, its been made obvious to Vil, that no matter how hard he tries, he will never, ever, be able to achieve being number in every aspect, embodying perfection itself. Vil picked up the glass bottle of juice and whispered under his breath, “Fairest One Of All”.
As Vil was cleaning up some of the chaos that he caused in his dressing room, he heard a familiar knock from the door. Before he and Neige would go out on stage, he'd always make sure to stop by Vil's dressing room to wish him luck. Vil honestly thinks that Neige only does this to get under his skin. He'd rather that than fathom, the idea that he's genuinely stopping by the kindness of his heart telling him too. “Hello! Vil? Can I come in?”
“Yes of course Neige, come… take a seat…” Vil couldn't help but smirk, this would be his time, his perfect victory. “How many years have we been doing this?” “Huh?” The question caught Vil completely off guard. “Since we were in elementary school, we auditioned for the same play.” Vil stated as he happily could. “Oh yeah! I remember it like it was yesterday, I was the prince and you were the evil king!” “...” Of course he had to point that out. “Anyways the point I'm trying to make is that we've always been together. Watching out for each other, making sure that the other is okay. And I just wanted to thank you for being there with me not just as a colleague, but as a friend. So, thank you! And whatever happens tonight, it'll just serve as another stepping stone in our careers!” Now this completely nauseated Vil, how dare Niege come here and make a mockery of him. Bring up “Friendship”?!? What “friendship” could they possibly have!? *Sigh* “I agree, and I say that we toast to this “friendship” of ours… is apple juice okay with you?” “Yeah! Apple juice is my favorite!” He beamed with absolute delight. Vil took out two glasses from the cupboard provided, he poured Neige a nice tall glass of the sparkling juice, while for himself, plain water. As he hands Neige the glass, Neige stands alone and says to him cheers. They raise their glasses high and mighty, “To us! For our success and future to come!” Neige shouts. They bang their glasses together. “For what the future may hold…” Vil trails off, his focus completely shifting his gaze to the fragile man besides him. It only took one sip, and by the time the glass reached the floor and shattered, Neige had already fallen along with it. Vil raised his glas once more, “For what the future may hold…...with you in it or not…”
