Good Times Bad Times

Summary:

Lena tells Kara her feelings. Does Kara feel the same way?

Notes:

Playing fast and loose with the canon a bit. In this Kara told Lena she is Supergirl at some point, always hated that forced drama. No Jimmy Olsen, he is the worst. Not sure when this exactly takes place season wise, haven't had a re-watch in a while.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Lena's heart raced, sweat began to bead up on her forehead, and she was on the verge of hyperventilating. This is the end she thought to herself. One miscalculated move and now her life was over. All the years raised and tortured by her Luthor adopters, all the late nights tirelessly working on inventions, or securing billion-dollar deals, it wasn't enough to prepare her. In the end all it took was a pair of bright blue eyes to do her in. She didn't know why, it was a night like any other. A bad guy threw her off a roof, Supergirl caught her and flew her home. It wasn't the first time it happened and probably not the last. But for some reason, some indescribable reason, tonight was different. Maybe the light hit her eyes just right, or her look lingered a little too long, or maybe it was the full moon, whatever it was over took Lena’s brain. Her amazing brain that Einstein couldn't hold a candle to was no better than a peahen’s when the male flashed its feathers. She did what she never thought she'd do; she made herself vulnerable. Right when Supergirl was getting ready to let her down on her balcony, Lena kissed her. It lasted only a few precious seconds, but to Lena time stopped. At first Supergirl reciprocated, and Lena felt like she was floating in outer space. There was nothing else in existence but the two of them, and for the first time in her life everything was perfect. Unfortunately, she was quickly brought back to earth, literally, when Supergirl dropped her and backed away in fright.

“Lena I'm sorry, I…we…I mean I don't…”

This was when Lena’s life flashed before her eyes. The I'm sorry might have well have been a laser blast through her gut. It would've definitely been less painful than watching Kara try to fumble through her words of rejection. She picked herself up, and dusted her arms and dress off.

“No I'm sorry Kara, I shouldn't have done that. It was just the adrenaline of the night, forget it please.” The lie was like digging a knife into her own heart. Then she looked at Kara again. Her eyes, Lena thought to herself, God her eyes, how did she never figure out Kara and Supergirl were the same person. There were no other eyes like them in the universe, Lena was sure of it.

“Is that ok?”

“What?” Lena answered, completely oblivious to what Kara had been droning on about until now, having been mesmerized by the big bright blue pools staring at her.

“Lena. If we need to talk about this.”

“Kara, it's fine, I'm sorry. I told you I just got caught up in the moment. It didn't mean anything.”

“I want to believe you Lena, but your heart is racing a mile a minute.”

Lena turned and groaned, “You know how much I truly hate it when you do that right? I was just thrown off a building. I think my heart is allowed to race.”

“As long as you're sure you're ok. It's…you know I love you, just not like that. You're my best friend and I don't want to…you know.” Kara replied, with many hand waving gestures.

“Kara can we please just drop it; I can't keep apologizing. It was a mistake, an impetuous kiss that meant nothing.”

“Ok great…impetuous, right, exactly, I mean you know I'm not…I never…that was the first time I guess I ever kissed a girl, you know.”

“Please stop saying, you know, so much.”

“Sorry, sorry”

“And yes, I know you're not gay or bi. It didn't mean anything. I'm sorry, Ok?”

Kara exhaled in relief. “Ok, well I'll see you tomorrow then.” She turned and was just about to fly off of the balcony when something snapped in Lena. Her steely Luthor resolve returned to her, her confidence and sureness in herself reappeared. She was ready to be completely vulnerable. She was Lena Luthor, and she never backed down from anything.

“No, you know what, I'm not sorry Kara.”

Kara was hovering a couple feet in the air and came back down, to see Lena walking towards her.

“If I'm sorry about anything it's about how long I took to do that.”

“Lena.”

“Don't you dare tell me you don't feel the same way. How many times has your hand lingered on my leg? How many hugs were a bit too long? How many times have we gotten lost in each other's gaze? I love you too Kara, but I'm in love with you, and I think you're in love with me. You're just afraid to admit it.”

Lena moved closer and closer to Kara with each word, while Kara stood there stunned. Kara had fought countless beings as Supergirl, some she didn't think she'd live through, but this was by far her toughest challenge yet. Lena stopped about a foot from Kara, after she backed her all the way up to the balcony edge. She crossed her arms as if to say to Kara “I'm waiting”, but it was more of a power move than that. As Lena crossed her arms, she purposely pushed her breasts up. The low cut dress she wore was already doing her a ton of favors, but she wanted to catch Kara looking.

“Lena, I…” And there was the pause and glance, right on cue Lena thought.

“See something you like?”

Kara's eyes darted quickly back to Lena's face. “No, I was just…”

“I know what you were doing, I've seen you do it plenty. Why won't you just admit you want this too? You lie to yourself, because for some insane reason you don't think you're good enough, not…perfect enough.” Lena reached up and caressed Kara's cheek. “But you are perfect, to me.” Lena leaned in and kissed her again. Kara reciprocated again instinctively. Soon both of their hands were all over each other, Kara grabbed Lena’s ass with one hand and pulled her close. Then the shock of what she was doing kicked in and Kara pulled away quickly.

“No, Lena. I'm sorry. I told you I don't feel that way about you.” Tears started to well up in Kara's eyes.

Lena stepped back, her voice raised now.

“Why are you fighting this!? That kiss said more than any words you can come up with.” Lena said curtly.

“I don't want this. We are friends, I don't want to put that at risk.”

“Oh please” Lena threw her hands up in disgust. “What a shit line. You have no idea what you want. You deprive yourself of anything good at every turn. Kara, we are perfect together. I already know all your annoying little habits and I love you even more because of them.” She clasped Kara's hands in hers, “Deep down you know it, you just have to trust yourself.” But Kara pulled away and began to hover up slowly. Lena stepped forward. “Don't Kara, don't go.”

“I'm sorry”, she cried and flew away in a flash. The sound of the flapping of her cape died to a faint nothing, and then she was out of sight.

“No you're not, not yet.” Lena murmured to herself as she stared off into the horizon of the city.

Across town, Alex was turning in after a long day. A Gordanian went nuts on the lower west side and it gave her a few bruises to show for her efforts. She subdued him though, and nobody was hurt so all in all a good day. Well a relatively good day, in truth most days have been a bit of a bummer for her since Maggie left. She hadn't properly been touched since her fling at Barry's wedding. She was aching for intimacy but her job didn’t really allow her to get close to many people. So she did what she's been doing most nights and started touching herself. Alex liked to start with her hands, and the soft music she was playing always helped relax her for an orgasm. She didn't know why she bothered getting in bed with panties on, she would always end up taking them off anyways. And they were off this time too, laying on the ground next to her bed. She was good and wet now, and her fingers were starting to get messy. She reached for her nightstand drawer and pulled out her dildo. The large phallic toy in her hand always made her heart skip with excitement. She coaxed it inside of her gently and turned on the clitoris stimulator. Immediately she was hit with waves of pleasure. With her free hand she grabbed at the sheets then her nipples. Every one over her nerves felt like they were stimulated to the brink. She started fucking herself faster and faster, warmth building up all over her body ready to explode when she felt a woosh of air and heard her window open and close. She froze as Kara paced back and forth completely oblivious to what she just walked in on.

“Sorry to wake you Alex, but oh boy have I had a day. I have no idea what to do.”

Luckily Alex was completely under her covers, she always liked the covers on, somehow it made it less dirty. She was able to lower her shirt back over her breasts, but when she made a move to remove her toy Kara sat on the bed. Alex jerked up and instead drove it deeper inside of her, at the perfect spot. In her panic somehow her hands made it above the covers, so the toy was not coming out. Kara started saying something about Lena and friendships or some other nonsense but Alex couldn't hear a word of it. The vibrator was still on her clit and with the dildo deep inside her it was taking everything for her not to cum right then and there.

“So, what do I do Alex?” Kara pleaded.

“What?” Alex asked with one eye rolled up into her head. If she moved at all she was sure she was going to cum.

“Alex, have you not been listening to a word I've said? C'mon get up, we need to be doing this over ice cream.” Kara made a move to yank the blanket off, and Alex jerked up again to try and stop her but the movement was too much for her. Her whole body convulsed and the orgasm she was trying to contain exploded out of her in more ways than one. She screamed in ecstasy and squirted a geyser of her juices out, thankfully contained under the blanket. Kara jolted up, confused and worried at what was happening to her adopted sister. Soon though, seeing Alex's body gyrating, it became quite apparent to her what was going on.

“Ok so this is a bad time. I'm gonna go, I think.”

Alex finally after catching her breath, and with a face of deep red, half from embarrassment half being flush from the orgasm. “Wait, Kara…” She gulped in a heap of air. “Shit I'm sorry. This wasn't…”

Kara started waving hands in front of her. “No it's ok, I came…er…I shouldn't have barged in. Obviously. I'm sorry, my fault.”

Alex made a move to get out of bed, but remembered she didn't have any bottoms on, and also didn't want to reveal the mess she just made under the covers. “Kara you know I was…before you came in….I didn't to you….I.”

Kara waved more hands again, and shook her head with a pinched face closing her eyes. “Yep yep I know, I know. You don't have to explain. I'm gonna leave you to…well I'm gonna go.” She made for the window but Alex called her.

“Kara!?”

Kara stopped and looked back.

“Yeah?”

“Listen, I think it needs to just be said so we can get past it. You caught me masturbating.”

Kara smacked a hand to her face and dragged it down. “Oh my God this is officially the worst day of my life. Ok we are past it, can I go now?”

“We can talk now if you want. Just give me a minute to get dressed.”

“No, no, no. Just...we'll talk tomorrow.”

Kara wasted no more time and shot out of the window as fast as she could. She thought about stopping by Nia's and talking with her about the Lena situation, but didn't want to make the same mistake she just made with Alex. So instead, she went back to her place. Kara took off her uniform as soon as she entered and threw it to the ground, then face planted on her bed in just her bra and underwear. She wanted to roll up under the covers and never come out. She tossed and turned, laying there a while without any liberation from her thoughts by sleep. The image of Lena kissing her just wouldn't leave her head. She kept replaying it over and over again. What came over her? Had Lena felt like this for a while? God her lips were so soft, and her ass felt amazing. Her breasts looked so good in that dress…. Suddenly she realized she was touching herself. She looked down and her fingers were under her panties, she pulled them out and beheld the wetness on them from the thought of Lena. Kara put them back in, and continued with what she caught herself doing. She then began imagining Lena without the dress, with her on top of Kara. Her hips started to buck; she rubbed with more pressure. She wanted the fingers touching her to be Lena’s so badly, and then in her mind they were. It was now Lena’s fingers on her clit rubbing furiously, and then there were no more thoughts, only feelings of warmth and waves of pleasure crashing over her again and again. She stifled a scream, so her body sent out blasts of heat vision from her eyes instead. She tried to close them, but was almost seizing from the orgasm. It took her a moment to realize she was hovering a few feet in the air. She got herself back on the bed, and lay there questioning her whole mentality. How could she have not grasped before that she wanted Lena…badly wanted her. She was aching now for her, and thought about flying to her apartment, ripping her clothes off and taking her. Tell her how dumb and blind she's been, that she's never wanted anyone else more in her life. She grabbed a pillow and held it close to her body, wanting it to be her friend, needing it to be. Her hips started to move back and forth instinctively, but the pillow was too soft, too flimsy to give her any recompense. She grabbed a smaller pillow with more rigid edges and corners and put it between her legs. Soon she was humping it vigorously. Her bed creaked as she fucked it faster and faster. The creaks got louder until the legs broke and the bed collapsed. Kara didn't care, nothing else in the world mattered at that moment. She came again and with her face buried in the mattress she screamed. Her legs shook and her toes curled to their precipice. Finally, the release was over and her body relaxed. She couldn’t believe she was actually exhausted. It had been a while since she felt so worn out, and within a couple of minutes she drifted off to a deep sleep.

The next day Kara woke up to the destruction she caused the night before. The bed was done for, and she rubbed the edge of her pillow to dust basically. Luckily the laser blast just resulted in some burn marks. Nothing penetrated the walls or ceiling, but the place was going to need a shit ton of paint. She thought about flying directly to Lena’s that morning. She wanted to beg her forgiveness, tell her how much of an idiot she’s been these years. When Lex threatened Kara that he was going to tell Lena her Supergirl secret, she wanted to die. She rushed to her right after that and told Lena herself. When Lena forgave her for hiding it, when they embraced and cried together, it was the most loved Kara ever felt. Of course she loved her as more than a friend, how could she have been so completely oblivious to her own emotions she wondered. But then a terror crept into her mind. What if it was too late now? Would Lena still have her after she rejected her? Does she hate her now? Kara began to have a bit of a mini panic attack, but soon calmed down. She needed to talk to Alex; she needed someone to tell her what to do. She also needed to make her rounds at the DEO, even though her head was not really in the superhero mood at the moment. But Supergirl has her duties and she couldn’t shirk them, even for love. Kara decided she would make sure there were no Supergirl emergencies, talk with Alex, and then see Lena later that night.

When she got to the DEO that morning, all seemed calm thankfully. She checked in with Winn first over at his terminal.

“Hey, you're in a little early. What's up?”, he asked.

“Nothing! Nothing's up. Who said something was up?” Kara added a half laugh in her panicked reply.

Winn stared at her for a bit wide eyed, then turned back to his monitor. “Ok, weirdo.”

“So, anything need punching?” She asked

“Well, Livewire broke out, but she's not currently destroying anything at the moment. Looks like she’s gone underground for now. We’re working on tracking her. In the meantime though your boy here came up with some dampeners for her. If you got a second, I can go over how to use them on her with you.”

“Umm yeah maybe in a bit. Have you seen Alex around?”

“Yeah she's out on the terrace.”

Kara turned and headed off to see Alex.

Winn mimicked a conversation to himself as she walked away. “Wow you came up with new dampeners for her all on your own Winn. That's so cool.”

“Oh Supergirl you're too kind. Thanks, yeah it was hard work but I managed.”

“You are the best.”

“Oh stop.”

Then Kara shouted from about thirty feet away. “I can hear you, ya know.”

Winn shouted back. “I know…that's why I did it.” He tried to sound confident, but it didn’t quite cut it. He went back to work at his computer terminal.

Kara met Alex on the terrace. The sun was shining and Alex was enjoying a coffee before the wear of the day started.

“Hey” Kara said

Alex turned around. “Hey yourself. I come bearing gifts.” She tossed Kara a paper bag with a few bagels.

“YES!” Kara exclaimed and immediately got to work on lathering up the bagels with some cream cheese that was included. She wolfed them down in no time flat, cream and crumbs were all over her face.

“Adorable, I can’t believe you're still single.” Alex said sarcastically.

Kara wiped her face with her cape and licked her fingers clean. She rolled up the paper bag and tossed it perfectly into a trashcan about 20 ft away. Then she grabbed Alex’s coffee and took a swig, to Alex’s utter annoyance. “HEY!” She swiped it back and took a sip herself.

“Funny you should say that.” Kara said sheepishly.

Alex spit up a bit of her coffee, and put the cup down. “What?! Oh my God, details. Who? When?”

“Its what I was gonna talk to you about last night, but…well anyways. So, you know the whole thing with Lena yesterday. I saved her from getting tossed off the roof?”

“Yeah of course. I swear the girl just needs to invest in a parachute at this point.”

“Well, I flew her home.” Alex’s eyes started to get wide; she suspected where the story was going.

“And…she kissed me.” Kara couldn’t look at Alex, just straight ahead to the horizon.

“AND!?” Alex shouted

“Oh my god, shhhh” Kara pleaded. “And she told me she was in love with me.”

“Holy…well what did you say?” Alex excitedly asked, in as much of a whisper as she could.

“What do you think? I freaked and left. I didn’t know what to do or say. I had never thought of Lena like that before.”

“Really?” Alex said with a hint of skepticism.

“Yes really. She’s my best friend.”

“Huh?”

“Huh?!, That’s all you can say is huh?”

“Well to be honest I always thought you too had hooked up at some point. I mean the way you look at each other.”

“Oh my god!” Kara exclaimed and spun around in frustration. “Does everyone think that?”

Alex started counting fingers “Winn, yes. Nia, yes. Never asked J’onn, I felt like that would be cheating.”

“Awesome.” Kara slumped back on the ledge, her chin resting on her arms. “How did everyone see this but me? What is wrong with me?”

Alex placed an arm on Kara’s back. “Nothing is wrong with you. I’m not really one who can talk about figuring things out. Look how long it took me?” She spun one of Kara’s shoulders around to stand her up so they were looking at each other. “Tell me now. How do you feel about Lena?”

“I love Lena, you know that, but as a friend. I honestly never thought about…us…together like that. But…”

Alex smiled. “Buuutttt?”

Kara looked down shyly. “My apartment needs a new coat of paint.”

“Ok odd segue, but how about we get back to Lena?”

Kara made a motion with her hands to tone down the volume.

“I was talking about Lena. After I left your place, I went home and…ugh this is embarrassing” She turned away from Alex again. Again, Alex spun her around.

“Hey, it can't be more embarrassing than you catching me last night. You can tell me, no judgments, ok?”

Kara exhaled deeply, “I went home and I started thinking about her, like sexually. It just happened; she just popped into my head. And…well…”

“What? What?!”

“It was intense, the most intense I’ve ever….well like I said my apartment needs some repairs.”

Alex flung into Kara and cradled her in a hug. “Oh my god I’m so happy for you. So what did you do, fly back over there? What did she say?”

“No, I fell asleep. I was exhausted.”

“So you talked to her this morning then?”

“No.”

“KARA!” Alex looked around in a bit of fright making sure nobody heard her.

“I wanted to talk to you first, I need advice.”

“Bull. What is it really?” Kara started to pace, “C’mon talk to me, that’s why you’re here and not there.”

“I’m scared, ok? What if this is just some pent-up tension. What if we try it and it doesn’t work out, and I lose her? What if…” She spun around again as tears started to form, and quickly wiped them away. “What if I already blew it? What if she hates me now because I rejected her?”

Alex walked over to her sister and hugged her tight. Kara buried her head in her shoulder and let the tears come this time.

“Let me tell you something. I was the same, scared to death, not sure of anything, but taking that leap was the best thing I ever did.”

“But look what happened, she left and you’ve never felt worse.”

“You’re right, it sucks, but me feeling so bad now means I had a point where I felt better than I thought was possible. And I know it can happen again, because now I know myself finally. You're scared of a lot of What If scenarios, well what if the world ends tomorrow and you didn’t tell her?” Alex pulled out of the hug and held Kara at her shoulders. “Now tell me for real and out loud, how do you feel about Lena?”

Kara looked at Alex, the tears had stopped falling and a smile formed. “I love her, I’m…I’m in love with her.”

“Good, now go tell her.” Alex let Kara go, but her own smile dipped slightly. While she was happy for Kara, she was also only human, and a tad bit of jealousy and bitterness crept in.

Kara was just about to take off when all hell broke loose. Alarms started blaring, and just about every light they had in the DEO was flashing red. Alex sprang down the steps two at a time and screamed. “WINN!? What’s going on?”

Dozens of agents were running to different stations throughout the complex. Alex had to dodge a few of them when getting to Winn.

“We’ve got a temporal tear near Midtown!”

Kara flew in now, “Is it Barry?”

“No way this one is huge, nearly 100ft wide!” Winn said as he typed commands between three stations. “And something is coming through, something big.” They all looked up to the giant screens at the center of the room. A few cameras they had set up on various rooftops showed the mayhem. A massive portal was opening in the sky, lighting was crackling around it and striking the area. People on the ground were scrambling for cover, and cars were crashing into each other as they stared at the apocalyptic view. Kara had seen enough.

“I’m on it.” She turned and was ready to take off but Alex stopped her.

“Supergirl!” Alex shouted, and Kara turned back around. “Be careful.” Kara nodded and took off, just a blue streak through the air for anyone trying to follow.

When Kara arrived on the scene, the situation had gotten worse. The sky was turning red, and the lightning strikes were setting fires across the city. Kara zipped around helping anyone she could. She put out fires with her cold breath, freed people trapped in rubble or their cars, and even took a few lightning strikes head on to shield civilians trying to flee the area. Then the air itself started to shake as something big started to finally come through the portal. Kara froze in amazement. Giant purple tentacles started to emerge, each as long as a city block.

Her comms clicked on and she heard Alex, “Supergirl, do you copy?”

“I copy.”

“Get out of there! We are going to come in and support. Wait for us!”

Kara wasn’t about to let this thing start destroying the city while she waited for backup, and she knew Alex wouldn’t actually expect her to. She flew in closer and swatted any tentacles away that seemed like they might hit a building. Finally the rest of the creature tore through the opening. It looked almost like a jellyfish, a giant floating jellyfish. It was bright purple and light glowed from its massive bulbous head. It had around thirty tentacles, but they all just hung listlessly from its carapace. Once it was fully out everything finally started to settle down, and it just floated there calmly above the city. Kara flew up to its head, hoping maybe she could reason with the thing.

“Hi” She wasn’t sure how to greet it and that seemed like as good a greeting as any, but there was no response.

“Are you lost maybe? Can I help?” No response or movement again. She put a finger to her earpiece. “Alex, do you copy?”

“I copy, go ahead.”

“This thing is just floating here, I think it might have gotten pulled here by something else.”

“Just stay there, our ETA is 5 minutes.”

Almost as soon as Alex replied, the creature moved one of its tentacles at lighting speed and constricted Kara. She tried to break free, but couldn’t wiggle from its grip. She tried to laser it with her heat vision, but it had no effect. Then a deafening noise reverberated from it and Kara screamed in pain as it rang through her ears. The noise seemed to have no effect on anyone below though; it was screeching at a frequency only Kara’s super Kryptionian ears could detect. Kara could barely think, the pain was so intense, but one thing stayed at the forefront of her mind, Lena. All she wanted to do was get through this so she could see Lena again, and tell her she loved her. Blood began to drip from her ears, and then a ferocity erupted in her she never had before. Her eyes flashed white-blue and heat vision exploded from them. The heat was so intense it was vaporizing the water out of the surrounding air, and creating a surge of static electricity around her. Flashes of small lightning bolts crackled by Kara’s head, and her hair started to stand on end. Some of the people below saw an image of Supergirl that truly terrified them. If they hadn’t run away before, they did now. The tentacle finally started to give way and began to melt. Kara then tore one of her arms through the tentacle enveloping her. Light emitting from the creature’s head began to flash every color from the spectrum at an incredible rate. Then the sound intensified considerably. Kara thought her head was going to explode, she screamed again once more before finally passing out from the pain. The creature then began to drift back into the portal. Lightning materialized again and the air compressed and expanded, creating some low shock waves. A DEO helicopter made it onto the scene just in time to see the last tentacle disappear through the portal, with Supergirl still in its grip.

“SUPERGIRL!!!” Alex shouted after her from the helicopter, but it was too late her sister was gone.
