Chapter Text
Hoshimachi Suisei was the type of girl Miko never thought she’d fall for in her life.
“Hey, Suisei-San!”
She was rude when spoken to, quiet almost the entire rest of the time, and was the girl who sat alone in the corner of the classroom listening to music, completely uninterested in doing anything but.
“Wanna hang out after school today? I know this really good-“
Miko had had limited interactions with the girl, and had preferred to keep it that way.
“…not interested.”
Keyword: Had.
“Oh come on! It’ll just be a little bit! You hardly do anything with anyone! Just give me a chance-“
“She said NO!”
The whole classroom was silent. Miko’s friends that she’d been talking to mere moments ago were particularly stunned.
It was just another day of high school. They were simply waiting for the next period when one of the popular girls of the class had decided to try striking up a conversation with Suisei, still with her headphones covering her ears as usual. The girl had been extra loud just to make sure she’d been heard, much to the discomfort of the blue haired girl, but no one had tried to stop her.
Until Miko spoke up. A thought passed through her mind that she’d never yelled that loudly before.
“She said no…” The pink haired girl continued awkwardly.
“Oh yeah? And what are you going to do about it? I’m not asking for anything serious. Just a hangout!” The popular girl spoke with barely hidden ire at being interrupted.
Miko took a moment to think. All eyes were on her, and she could practically feel her heart beat out of her chest.
She had half a mind to just start beating the girl up then and there. Then she mentally shook that thought out of her head and reprimanded herself for such a violent thought.
…she’s never thought like that before.
Miko let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding after what felt an eternity in stasis, the popular girl smirking at the inaction.
“Exactly. Now, if you’ll excuse me, me and my new friend Suisei-San were just discussing-“
As if to speak of the devil, the blue haired girl in question stood up from her desk, loudly. The chair made a scraping sound against the ground and Suisei began to walk.
Past the popular girl, mouth slightly agape now.
Pass all the other students, some concerned, some confused.
And stopped next to Miko.
Blue, starry eyes gazed into a pair of emerald green. Miko felt her heart skip a beat before starting to slow.
Right before it accelerated like an runaway car as she felt a warmth cover her hand, gaze inching downwards to confirm the comet that had just entered her space had took her hand in her own. When she glanced back up, a faint blush could be seen on Suisei’s face, the blue haired girl now looking away.
Miko felt a warmth spread across her own face at the sight.
“What the hell…”
The silence was broken by a random student, nearly causing everyone to jump at the sudden break in tension. The popular girl in particular tried to hide her anger at the scene. Miko only realized just how embarrassing it was for her.
So, she did what she feels she’s been doing all her life:
Run.
The sound of the classroom doors banging against the wall and echoing through the halls was the last thing they heard. They, Suisei and Miko, hand in hand.
She let out a breath once the cool air of the roof hit her skin, hand unconsciously letting go out Suisei’s to wipe the sweat from her brow. The warmth missing from her palm wasn’t registered until she heard a whisper behind her. A glance back revealed Suisei attempting to appear as if she’s not mourning the same loss of warmth as Miko, and failing miserably as her face is still flushed and she’s holding her own hand.
It was such a contrast to how the girl usually is, stoic and almost unfeeling in her demeanor.
A chuckle escapes Miko’s mouth before she can register what’s happening. It clicks once Suisei looks up at her with wide eyes filled with wonder and she pauses awkwardly.
They just ran out of class right before the bell rang. In front of everyone.
Oh she was so going to detention.
She supposed she was making a funny face in hindsight, because she heard Suisei giggling.
It was quiet, almost as if she trying to hide and disappear from the world, but she had this smile on her face as if she couldn’t care less what the world thought of her. It was… entrancing, and Miko found herself staring blankly. Suisei must’ve noticed her change in expression, because she stopped soon after and looked away again, just like in class.
…Miko wanted to hear that giggle again.
…
“H-Hi…” She started with.
Suisei didn’t reply.
“Nice weather, right…?”
Still no reply.
“Um… what’s your name?-“ Miko tried to cut herself off upon realizing how stupid of a question that was, but failed by getting the last word out before she could do so.
A sigh left her, and a concealed snort left Suisei.
The comet tried to hide it with her hand, but ended up just making it more obvious before she moved it back to its original spot on her own hand, attempting the stoic act once again.
But Miko saw it. A glimmer of who this girl really was.
She smiled, before remembering that she was laughing at her own expense.
“I swear I’m smarter than that. I know your name, Suisei-San.”
Another snort. Suisei didn’t use her hand to cover it this time, but that still didn’t make it any less obvious. Then, a whisper.
“Huh? Did you say something?”
She saw it in that moment. Suisei, smiling as she whispered just a little bit louder, just for Miko to hear and Miko only. Framed by the light of the morning sun, and a gust of wind at the perfect moment to card through her hair. It was like she came out of a painting.
Miko blushed. Crimson red and all.
“Call me Sui-Chan. I prefer it. It’s cuter.”
