Chapter Text
A Soulmark, a simple thing meant to bring endless joy, constant support, and a sense of completion, now, while soulmarks tend to be romantic in nature, not all are; some marks are entirely platonic. While some individuals have one, others have multiple.
A soulmark appears at the very moment of birth before fading until both soulmates come into physical contact with each other. Upon contact, a deep and powerful connection forms between the two, informing the bearers as to the nature of their bond. If the bearer of the other half of the soulmark is not yet alive, the mark turns dormant, creating a deep instinctual longing, yet a patient feeling. For mortals, this may not be an issue.
However, for immortals, this becomes a much greater issue as many have to wait centuries or even millennia for their soulmate to appear. If they’re made to wait too long, they may grow cold or indifferent, possibly even downright hateful. At the same time, some have no issues, some Olympians, such as the Big Three, as they are called, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, all found their respective soulmates in Hera, Amphitrite, and Persephone as romantic Partners. And many who called Olympus home had platonic marks, but not all were so lucky.
Persephone ‘Percy’ Jackson was lounging on the beach, gazing at the night sky, taking in the constellations, smiling widely, and listening earnestly as her mother, who, in her completely unbiased opinion, is The Best in the whole wide world. At the same time, she had never known her father, as her mom said he’d been lost at sea. Her mom always told her that he loved her with all his heart, and her mom had never steered her wrong before, and while she wished desperately to meet him if her mom said that he loved her but couldn't come to see us, who was she to doubt the most important person in the world to her.
As her mom had just finished pointing out and explaining the story behind the constellation of Ursa Major and Minor, a loud snap and thud drew their attention.
Sitting up from their stargazing, both mother and daughter stilled in shock and fear at what had just appeared out of the woods at the edge of a couple of hundred yards away from the beach.
A single giant of a man towering at 7ft tall, a mouth full of crooked and gnarled teeth, holding a large, solid bronze club, and most strikingly of all was a large single eye, rather than the normal two. The pained look on his face vanished as he licked his lips before he charged at the duo, screaming something about how he would finally be able to sate his hunger.
While her mom was scared stiff and completely frozen, something instinctual in her brain fell into place. Rather than being scared or shocked, she found herself in a ready position. Her brain ran through a quick assessment, unarmed against an armed opponent, but with plenty of escape routes. Her best option was to run, but a single look at her frozen mom silenced all calculations about escape routes and survival chances in her brain. A new and more important directive filled her brain to protect those she cared for.
As the monstrous individual reached colossal feet and impacted the sand through pure instinct, she reached out and grabbed the air. Suddenly, a giant tendril of water shot up from the ocean, completely absorbing the monster, and with a cry of fury, she threw her arm out towards the ocean, launching the monster into the horizon.
Coated in sweat, heaving in exhaustion with bone-deep weariness filling her body, Persephone promptly passed out. Falling to the soft sand of the beach with a light thud and a small puff of loose sand.
Deep in the ocean, resting on the very floor, was a vast sprawling city filled with buildings of living coral and abalone shining as a stunning white and rainbow beacon. The very centre piece of the city is a huge and opulent palace built of shining pearl, deep cool grey sea stone, high contrast corals and abalone, and shimmering adamantine.
In the throne room of that very palace, sat upon one of the twin thrones was an otherworldly beautiful woman with long flowing black hair gently pinned back by shining pearl hairclips, a brilliant red circlet of polished preserved crab claws adorning her brow, wearing a beautiful deep oceanic blue silken gown, in an instant, her once relaxed posture became rigid, her eyes shooting open in surprise her deep mocha eyes shining in shock. Within an instant and a small spray of sea mist, she disappeared from her throne.
Appearing on the beach, ankle deep in the low tide, in a soft splash of sea mist and a flash of soft sea green light.
Upon the beach, Sally looked to the new arrival, releasing a soft gasp at the new arrival.
“Amphirite, what are you doing here ?”
“I felt someone connect to the very ocean itself and began manipulating mine and my husband's domain” Quickly striding her way up the beach, she lowered herself into a crouch, placing a gentle hand on Sally’s face, cupping her cheek. Amphirite checked her over for injuries before looking down at the little girl resting in her lap. With a soft gasp, Ampharite’s mocha eyes shot back up to meet Sally’s shining and shifting blue “Is she ?”
Cutting Amphirite off before she could finish, Sally nodded with a bittersweet smile, “She is she’s mine” A wet laugh sounded out as tears began to shine in Sally’s blue eyes, causing them to shine even more.
A shining smile quickly adorned Amphirite’s face as she pulled both Sally and her daughter into a warm hug “Oh, that’s wonderful, Sally. She’s beautiful”, she said before looking at her forlornly. “Why did you not tell us you were pregnant?”
A deep heaving sob wracked Sally. “I knew you’d both have to leave either way, so I tried to save you both the pain of knowing you’d have a child you could never get to know”
“Oh, Treasure, Ancient Laws be damned, we’d have found a way to be in her life” A flash of lightning cracked across the skies, and the rattle of thunder sounded off at the deity’s words before she continued what she was saying. Apharite noticed a nasty, deep purple bruise poking out from the collar of Sally’s shirt, as well as her arms and wrists. Gently placing a hand on the bruised skin, Amphirite looked Sally in the eyes pleadingly, “How did this happen?”
Before Sally could answer, a low groan escaped her daughter as she began to stir awake. Holding her daughter close, Sally gently held her.
“Uggggh, Mom, what happened my heads killing me” Slowly and gently, with the aid of her mother, she sat up before registering the newcomer “Um, Mom, who's the new pretty lady?” The young girl's question caused Amphirite’s cheeks to flush a light golden colour
Sally gently took one of her daughter's hands in one hand and reached for Amphirite’s with the other. The oceanic queen, smiling gently, took her hand as Sally guided the deity over to her daughter.
“Well, Pershephone, you remember when we had that conversation about not all couples have to be either different genders or just two people, right?” Sally’s question caused Pershephone to raise an eyebrow in confusion, who stopped to think about it for a second before slowly nodding in response, “Well, this is Amphirite. When I was together with your father, I was also in a relationship with her as well. We… Well, we were all very happy together”
Persephone looked between her mother and Amphirite in shock, her mouth slightly agape as she looked between the two.
“Hello, Persephone, it is lovely to finally meet you. I wish it could’ve been sooner, but.” Amphirite paused, weighing her words carefully before continuing, “Circumstances did not allow for it, I would be more than happy to call my Husband here so he can finally meet you, if you would like?”
Persephone looked towards Ampirite in shock, “Your husband as… as in my Dad?” The question elicited a gentle nod in response from Amphirite. She looked towards her mom expectantly, who gave her a small smile and a delicate nod. “Are yo….” The words seemed to get stuck in her throat as a look of pure nervousness and anxiety flared across her face before she steeled herself with a determined and slightly resigned expression, “Are you all Soulmates ?”
Amphirite smiled widely before gently squeezing Sally’s hand, “We are”, with a flick of her wrist from her free hand. Persephone watched in shock as the long flowing gown that Amphirite once wore was quickly replaced by a swimsuit top and a pair of denim shorts, revealing her smooth and pale complexioned skin as well as a large intricate pair of Soulmate marks.
The marks both started right at her sternum sat right above her heart before arching up her chest wrapping around her well endowed chest trailing down her sides before wrapping back around and under her bust and back onto her chest while the right set of marks stopped there the left one kept going running down her abdomen before twisting off towards her hip and running down her slender legs and stopping just above her knee.
Pershephones was in awe, attempting to drink in all the details of both marks. The sheer intricacy of both marks and their sheer size showed just how deeply Amphirite cared for not only Persephone's father but also her mother. Persephone didn’t have to think too hard to figure out which mark belonged to which Soulmate after all her mother had a matching mark in the same place on her.
Persephone looked up towards her mom slowly, eyes filled with hope, “Does…. Does this mean I get to meet Dad?” Her mother paled for a second, and she seemed to be weighing how to answer
“Absolutely I wouldn’t have it any other way” Amphirite cut her mother off before she could respond to Persephone’s question once more giving her mothers hand a gentle squeeze she leaned forward and gently cupped Persephone’s cheek “I am so sorry it took so long to meet you little one” gently lowering her hand she leaned back with a soft smile eyes glowed a brilliant deep blue as well as her the mark running down her left hand side.
Poseidon POV
Up on Mount Olympus, a well-tanned man sat upon an enormous throne idly running his hand through his large, black, and speckled grey beard as he leaned back in boredom and sighed internally. Suddenly, he felt the familiar presence enter his mind, quirking an eyebrow in question, he still smiled happily at his wife’s presence, reaching out to him.
With a gentle touch and practised ease, he mentally pushed her presence to one side, and now, she would usually stop there, knowing that the meeting was still ongoing and would attempt to contact him again later. However, this time her presence immediately came back to the forefront of his mind with more determination, just as he was about to answer her and find out what had his lovely and normally gentle wife so passionate.
His brother cleared his throat, glaring at him, “Pay attention, Poseidon, these are matters of grave importance. Whatever has you distracted is less important”
“Sorry, brother, the meeting reminded me of a similar issue in Atlantis, and I was thinking about how I may use our decisions here to help solve the issue back home. I apologise” Zeus smiled at his brother before nodding approvingly, seemingly happy with Poseidon’s completely made-up answer. With a mental sigh of relief, he once again gently nudged his wife’s presence aside.
His brother was just about to say something to him, but just before he could, his wife’s presence once again came back to the forefront of his mind. Gone was the gentle and kind touch of before, it arrived with a storm of fury and unrestrained determination. Looking down, he now noticed his soulmate’s mark for his wife was shining bright enough to be seen clearly from all across the room. Something which had managed to stop all the bickering between the eleven others.
“It would appear, my Wife is quite insistent that my presence is required”
Heaving a sigh, Zeus waved his hand dejectedly at his brother, “Just go, Poseidon, no need to keep your soulmate waiting”
With a grateful nod, Poseidon flashed out of the room, appearing beside his Wife.
Now Poseidon was prepared to stand in the Atlantean throne room. Instead looking around in confusion, he found his massive form towering over a beach.
Slowly, he realised that this wasn’t just any beach, this was Montuak beach, a place very near and dear to both his and his wife’s hearts.
With flash of deep blue light he shrank down to mortal size, gazing to his right and spotting a beachside campsite, but when he turned his head left, his heart all but stopped sitting there in the soft sands of the beach that meant the world to him was his wife looking, stunning in beach attire and normally that would’ve been enough to make his heart skip a few beats, but the two individuals sat beside her in the sand that shocked him to his very core.
He instantly recognised his other soulmate, his treasure who neither he nor his wife, his shining pearl had seen in 10 years. She was just as beautiful as the day he last saw her, her long brown hair waving gently in the breeze, her shining sapphire eyes stinging with tears. Next to her was a young preteen girl, who he guessed was between 9 and 12 years of age, but with a single look at her.
He knew with every fibre of his being that this little girl with her short roughly chopped black waves of hair and her almost glowing sea green eyes, was his daughter, he gently reached out with his divine domains and there poking roughly at the very edges of every single one of his domains sat a small condensed source of power, he recognised in an instant the source it was his daughter.
“Sally… my treasure wher.. where have you been I….. no WE missed you so so much” Slowly and carefully, he approached almost as if any sudden moves may cause her to vanish again
“Hello again, my Anchor…. I’m… I…. I’m so so sorry for disappearing on you both” Tears streamed down her face, my heart broke.
Before my wife or I could move to comfort her, the young girl shot forward at speed, crashing into her mother's side and holding her tightly. She said something to her that I couldn’t hear, but one look at both my soulmates' faces, I could tell that she was comforting her.
Gently and slowly, I crossed the beach between us before kneeling in the sand before them. I slowly reached out and cupped Sally’s cheek and gently made her look up slightly towards me.
“My treasure, it’s alright” Looking towards the young girl curled up to her side, I smiled.
Realising where my gaze was directed, Sally smiled at me before she wrapped her arm around the young girl supportively and gently pushed her forward slightly “This is Persephone, your… No OUR Daughter”
Looking down at our daughter, I gently reached out and took both her hands in mine.
“Hello, Persephone, it makes me the happiest being alive to get to meet you finally”
She looked towards her mother. She sat there looking at her for a while, almost as if she was figuring out a puzzle, before she turned, looked at Amphirite and then finally turned towards me, her gaze meeting my own.
Her eyes shone with a mixture of emotions, but at the forefront of them all sat hope. Slowly, she stood before leaning forward and hugging me with all her might.
Smiling widely, I pulled her closer, her head resting in the crook of my neck, and faintly I heard her voice, “Dad, please save Mom from Gabe, he’s hurts Mom, and I can’t do anything to help her” My eyes grew wide as I looked over towards Sally and i could seem them deep bruises ragning in color from light browns to deep purples along her neck and poking out from under her sleeves.
Tightening my hold on my daughter, “Don't worry now, my dear, I’ll take care of it. No one will hurt you or your mother again while I’m here”
