Malfunction

Summary:

There was something needy, something desperate, in Homelander's cold blue eyes, and try as he might, there was no denying that the most powerful man in the world was currently in the palm of his hand, both in a figurative and literal sense, practically begging for his attention.

So much so, that Stillwell can't help but fall victim to the overwhelming urge to exploit the picture of vulnerability that sits before him now, knowing that an opportunity like this will likely never happen again.

Takes place during issue #49, in which Stillwell finds a rather distraught Homelander in his office late at night on the verge of a breakdown and deals with him accordingly.

Hi there! This has been in my drafts for ages but I thought I would finally share it in the vain hope that posting it will finally force me to finish it. As you guys already know from my art dumps, this ship is my most favorite rarepair of all time, and after rereading the comics a whole bunch of times throughout the years, my appreciation for their dynamic has only increased exponentially, especially after the show had ended last month to very, very mixed results. (I, for one, was very disappointed by the series finale and the season in general ngl :'C )

So yeah, i'm kinda experimenting with a new chapter style with this one given the fact that I don't have the last part completely finished just yet, but hopefully it doesn't take away from the reading experience overall! Also, once the last part is posted, I will be changing the rating from mature to explicit and add all the necessary tags seeing as the writing process of this fic was what inspired the first drawing that I posted in my second art dump. ☺️

WARNING: In regards to the tags above, the pictures that The Boys have been blackmailing Homelander with are briefly discussed including the mention of rape/murder/cannibalism. So while these subjects aren't depicted to the utmost detail in the text, I thought i'd put this warning here just in case. Also The Boys, as in the comic itself, is its own warning, so your discretion is advised.

Chapter Text

It's late in the evening when Homelander arrives unannounced.

They usually keep to their weekly appointments as per agreement, at a set time and date, so that it doesn't interfere with their respective schedules.

But as for today...well, today is different.

Normally these meetings of theirs are used as a means for him to assess Homelander while the appointed leader of The Seven is none the wiser. To evaluate his state of mind should the day come that the all-powerful supe has decided that he is more than ready to engage in yet another horrendous murder-rape spree and resume carrying out the very same atrocities that he had so gleefully committed almost twenty years ago on a whim.

But of course, it's more or less a precaution, if anything, given the fact that the original episode itself had been labeled a statistical anomaly long before he had even become the head of Superhuman Development - deemed highly unlikely for something of its caliber to happen again. But Stillwell knows better then to leave Homelander to his own devices, and so he insists on having their little talks regardless of how busy they both may be.

Otherwise, Homelander believes that these meetings of theirs are merely a part of his debriefing, and it makes the superhuman feel as though he has a place where corporate is concerned - which he clearly does not. And with Homelander's growing resentment towards both him and Vought-American as a whole, it's also safe to assume that he must know this all too well by now.

But as of this instant, all that Stillwell has to go off on in regards to Homelander's rather peculiar extra-curricular activities as of late are based in speculation and rumor and nothing more. And so, there's not much that he can do now besides humor the man and hope that his pitiful attempts at defiance stay that way for the time being.

Eventually, Homelander will be found out, and he'll be dealt with accordingly. But until then, all he can do is bide his time and wait until the supe eventually slips up and exposes himself for the absolute traitor to the company that he has become before he can take further action.

Innocent until proven guilty, as the saying goes - but innocent is clearly not the word that he would use to describe Homelander and the plethora of crimes that he has committed over the years.
