Magne knows that with every space she enters she has to face a battle-and its not always with those asshole heroes.
Being yourself-being trans out and proud-is something she would never forget. No more having to feel queasy at the wrong name and pronouns, no more plain and boring clothes. She could be a woman, and hopefully in the next life she'll always be a woman. But, being out and proud comes with a price.
It means your entire family will kick you out in the middle of college. No college degree means no qualifications which means no jobs which also leads to no money. Her family had frozen her bank account, and the first time she tried to use her card in the middle of a cafe was humiliating. There were a lot of nights spent sleeping on benches, one hand clutching her few belongings.
It means that you're not always safe. Since she didn't have any money, Magne couldn't even transition fully. She was fine with her height and facial hair-those were natural-but she wanted to feel like a woman. Some days, she did when she did something fun with her appearance. But, looks doesn't mean survival on the streets where random villain attacks can happen. If not those, then attacks from the people who felt such strong offense to Magne's existence. How many times was she turned away from simple job interviews or shooed out of stores? How often was she arrested for trying to use the women's bathroom-and got into even more trouble if she forced herself to use the men's one? How many times did she have people call her "sir" to her face?
But, being out and broke and broken on the inside, also meant you became desperate for money. For something to get back at society. To do anything to make the people who hated her pay. And that's how Magne spiraled into becoming a villain.
Just because you're also in the same bottom of the well doesn't mean there's any kinship. Magne can quickly note when she's the few women in the room, and everyone else quickly notes how she presents herself. There's a variation of downright hostility and violence with no in-between. Its worse when its mainly men who she had to run drugs with-the ones who misgender her and "accidentally" trip her when the heroes and the police bust them.
Its not like Magne didn't hit back. She didn't carry that big ass magnet for nothing.
So, when she gets recruited to the League of Villains, Magne is so sure she'll run into the same issues.
Except-
-Shigaraki only grumbles and scowls, and orders Magne around like a servant. There's no malicious intent in his eyes as he entrusts her with the more violent parts of their missions. Its more so that he knows Magne will come out the winner after killing some obstacles-
-Spinner drags Magne into deep talks of philosophy and society. Behind his obsession over Stain, the mutant holds so many ideas and opinions that its fascinating. Both of them bond over how ostracized they are in society, the worst moment of their lives, the violent acts committed against them that were ignored. Spinner one day shows up wearing a trans pin shining from his scarf, and Magne hugs him tightly-
-Twice is as unpredictable as the ocean. He keeps Magne on his toes-she answers his anger with teasing quips and is firm when he becomes goofy. Twice listens and remembers when Magne whines and its so refreshing. He reminds her of her younger siblings before she came out, before her family tossed her out-
-Dabi tries to act nonchalant, but he cracks with all the flirting Magne sends his way. What can she say, she loves those bright blue eyes. Dabi usually flings an insult back, but once or twice he shocks Magne with some of the things he says. She's come so close to rizzing him up, but he slips away like smoke. And yet, he hasn't tried to hurt her for being trans and open about it, and isn't that refreshing-
-Kurogiri is silent and stoic, but he refers to her as "Ms. Magne" and memorizes her drink order. That has never happened before ever. Magne always greets him just to hear those words, the title something she earned-
-and the person who has stuck to her side has been Toga.
It's this insane girl who insists on painting each other's nails ("Red for blood, duh!"). Its during the first night they spend at the bar, and its 2 AM. Magne had not cared, and only delighted at the shimmer from her fingernails.
It's Toga who compliments Magne first. About her hair, her quirk, her ability to defend them all. About how Magne teases them back but watches over them when shit hits the fan.
Its Toga who sticks funky hair clips and other accessories into Magne's hair. The older woman finds herself loving playing with Toga's hair, having had practice from one of her dozen female cousins. Sometimes, there are fish and French braids that fly around as Toga spins, hyper with happiness. Sometimes, there are half ponytails that Twice runs his hand through because its so soft. Sometimes, its the usual space buns Magne knows Toga can do. And yet, the younger girl practically begs her to do it "because you do it better!"
Its Toga who dusts eyeshadow and blush onto Magne's face. Its almost like being baptized, the first time she wears make-up. Like she's officially crossed over into the realm of womanhood. Looking at herself in the mirror, Magne can see her face lose that hard edge and how the exhaustion has been erased. She looks softer and the site almost brings her to tears. After searching so long for the moment-the click, the end of the tunnel, the climax for the main character-to actually feel like herself, she had to meet Toga.
Toga, who has harmed people and took joy in pain and who played with people like a cat does with mice.
Toga, the one girl who started to call Magne "onee-chan" and its dropped so casually; as if it doesn't punch Magne in the chest hearing such a title given to her. Her breathe leaves her when the rest of the League picks up on it, and they refer to her oftentimes as "onee-sama."
To think she grew on these assholes-to think they care about her this much to refer to her as an older sister. It made her want to laugh loud enough to rival All Might and break down crying at the same time.
Magne doesn't do any of that. Instead, she grins widely and lets Toga drag her to her room for a makeover. And if she does refer to the blonde girl as "imouto" occasionally, then thats her thing and anyone who has a problem with it can shut up.
