Chapter Text
Fun little detail about Eddie and Buck:
Eddie loves Buck’s homemade cookies. Not because they’re the best cookies in the world, although Buck would absolutely argue that they are.
The real reason is much simpler.
Years ago, Buck jokingly told Eddie that every cookie came with a kiss included.
Eddie never forgot.
Now it’s become their thing.
If Buck leaves a plate of cookies on the counter before a shift, Eddie will grab one on the way out the door and immediately demand his kiss.
If six cookies are missing, Buck already knows Eddie has collected six kisses throughout the day.
Some days, Eddie deliberately steals extra cookies to see Buck roll his eyes and kiss him anyway.
Christopher once counted twelve missing cookies and asked if that meant Eddie got twelve kisses.
Buck nearly choked.
Eddie proudly answered, “Actually, mijo, I got thirteen. Your dad owed me one.”
From that day forward, the cookie jar became less of a snack container and more of a running tally of how much Eddie missed Buck.
The worst days are when Buck is away.
The cookie jar stays full.
Eddie never touches a single one.
Because to Eddie, the cookies only matter when the person who made them is there to collect the payment.
A few days after Buck came home earlier than expected, he wandered into the kitchen and immediately noticed the cookie jar.
Without thinking twice, he stole four cookies.
By the time Eddie got home from work, the first thing he noticed was that four cookies were missing.
He smiled.
Four cookies.
Four kisses.
The system had been established years ago, and neither of them had any intention of changing it.
After setting down his keys, Eddie walked through the house looking for Buck.
He finally found him sitting on the front porch, enjoying the quiet evening.
Buck looked up when he heard footsteps approaching.
“You counted the cookies, didn’t you?” he asked.
“Of course I did,” Eddie replied.
Without another word, Eddie stepped closer.
The first kiss landed softly against Buck’s neck.
The second brushed gently across his lips.
The third lingered a little longer.
Buck was already smiling when Eddie leaned in for the fourth.
The kiss was warm and affectionate, ending with a playful nip at Buck’s lower lip that made him laugh.
“There,” Eddie said, resting his forehead against Buck’s. “Cookie debt paid in full.”
Buck shook his head, completely unable to hide his grin.
“You know, normal people just say hello.”
“Normal people don’t keep track of kisses with cookies,” Eddie answered.
And honestly, neither of them would have wanted it any other way.
