Work Text:
The party had been going for a while already. Sangwon knew that because the alcohol was finally starting to hit him. He'd always had a high tolerance, but maybe tonight his mind was somewhere else. It wasn't exactly surprising. He'd broken up with his boyfriend just a few hours ago, and now he was trying to drown the regret in vodka.
He slipped away from the group he'd been dancing with, needing a moment to breathe and look for someone he hadn't managed to find since arriving. After making several laps around the crowded basement, he finally gave up. Maybe Leo just hadn't shown up yet.
With a sigh, he dove back into the sea of bodies swaying to the music. The lights were bright enough for everyone to spot him as soon as he found his friends gathered on top of a small platform, but that didn't stop him. He snatched a drink from Kangmin's hand, and a satisfied smile spread across his face the moment he felt a pair of hands settle on his waist.
"Not mad anymore?" No answer came. That alone made him turn around within the stranger's embrace, his brain short-circuiting when he realized the guy wasn't who he'd been expecting.
"I'm not mad, but I can be if you want." Sangwon nearly choked on his drink. A long time ago, he'd stopped being interested in anyone who wasn't Leo.
But maybe a distraction was exactly what he needed right now. Something to take his mind off the mistake he'd made by breaking up with his boyfriend. If he weren't so impulsive, he'd be dancing with Leo instead of a complete stranger.
Sangwon wasn't the type to regret his decisions, but in that moment he wanted to cry. He was furious with himself, so angry it almost hurt. Still, he couldn't afford to fall apart tonight because it was one of his best friend's birthday parties. Anxin would kill him if he found out about all the drama Sangwon had managed to create on his birthday of all days.
So he kept dancing for a while longer, ignoring al the gazes from his friends. The guy behind him could move, he'd give him that, but those weren't the large, gentle hands that could wrap around his entire waist. It wasn't the familiar warmth of his boyfriend's body surrounding him, nor were they the lips that used to brush against his neck. A deep sense of discomfort settled in when he realized the guy seemed interested in more than just dancing. Which was confusing because everyone at this party should know he's Leo's boyfriend. Sangwon had practically made sure the entire world knew it because he was ridiculously possessive.
Apparently, though, that particular piece of information had never reached this guy.
Unfortunate for him, because Sangwon wasn't willing to give him anything more than a dance. Not tonight. Not ever.
Sangwon had known for a long time that he belonged to one person and one person only. Not that he had any interest in anyone who wasn't Leo or his friends, anyway.
After a few minutes, when the dance had turned into Sangwon constantly rejecting the guy's intentions, he felt a gaze on his back. A very familiar gaze. The thread connecting them pulled taut, and his body reacted automatically to the presence he felt near him. Leo had arrived at the party, and he'd found Sangwon.
So when their eyes finally met, with Leo only a few steps away, Sangwon immediately pulled away from the guy who hadn't let go of him the entire time. The blond made his way toward the most ridiculously handsome person on the planet. And, of course, the person he'd missed the most. But nobody needed to know that.
"If you keep staring at me, I'm gonna start charging you." Leo smiled the moment he heard that voice, so addictive to his ears. Sangwon had always gotten what he wanted, at least when it came to his boyfriend. And there he was, standing right in front of Leo with that angelic face that hid every spoiled, demanding thing about him that Leo loved.
"I've got better things to do than stare at you, Barbie. I didn't come to this party for you, and you know it." Sangwon crossed his arms, offended by the response. His heart gave a painful squeeze, hurting more than he'd expected, but he didn't let it show. He sighed, trying to clear his head. If he wanted to annoy Leo, he had to play his cards right to get what he wanted, or it could end very badly.
"Then I guess you won't mind if I do this."
He turned around, swaying slightly from the alcohol in his system. He didn't like being ignored like that, especially when it was his boyfriend —ex boyfriend— doing it. He climbed back onto the stage and drew everyone's attention with a shout. Usually, Sangwon was a fairly introverted person who only ever tried to get someone's attention when it was Leo's, but alcohol running through his veins, combined with the desire to make his guy jealous, could work wonders.
"Alright, everyone! It's time..." He paused dramatically, raising his arms. "...to spin the bottle!"
Leo shook his head as he watched the blond struggle to get down from the small platform, still dizzy from the alcohol. He bumped into several people dancing nearby and nearly slipped while trying to make his way through the crowd toward a quieter area with a few couches.
Leo had always admired Sangwon. That natural ability he had to draw everyone's attention the moment he walked into a room, the way blond suited him so well it looked like he'd been born with that hair color, and the way he somehow always managed to get what he wanted. Not that Leo ever made it difficult for him.
Their relationship had always been a little complicated—or very complicated, if he was being honest. Sometimes Leo felt like he and Sangwon weren't even speaking the same language, but he didn't mind. If anything, it only made him want to understand his boyfriend more and more with each passing day.
In fact, it was that very desire that had led Leo to confess to Sangwon in the first place.
They were at the apartment. They'd been roommates for months, and honestly, Leo wasn't ashamed to admit that jealousy and possessiveness had always been normal between them.
Maybe they always had been. Even before they started dating.
One night, Sangwon came home smelling like cheap cologne, and Leo, an expert when it came to Lee Sangwon, knew perfectly well that he didn't wear cheap cologne. One angry look in his direction, a slight frown, and Sangwon was already on his way to the shower. Leo had learned just how obedient the blond could be when someone he cared about gave him an order.
The bad thing—or the good thing, depending on how you looked at it—was that Sangwon had turned into an irresistibly spoiled brat once he'd realized how jealous Leo could get and how deeply he felt about him. So there had been no shortage of Sangwon flirting with strangers just to drag Leo out of his comfort zone and force him to confess his feelings.
And Leo was only human. A human who happened to be very weak when it came to anything involving Lee Sangwon. That's how their relationship started.
Leo was in love with that boy, and he had no doubts about Sangwon's feelings for him. However, that didn't stop him from being a truly spoiled and stubborn brat who tried to solve every problem by threatening to break up. He'd never actually gone through with it until today, when, for some reason, he snapped faster than usual. Leo hadn't even had time to open his mouth before Sangwon had said, "We're done," and walked out of the apartment seconds later.
Their relationship was still a work in progress. He knew Sangwon hadn't really broken up with him. Simply because he knew him far too well.
Just to be safe, and while keeping an eye out for his spoiled little brat, Leo made his way over to the circle of drunk people gathered around the couches. He ignored everyone who was already too lost in their own world—dancing or making out in some corner—to join a pathetic game like this.
"You go first, Hao." Sangwon placed an empty beer bottle in the center of the table and winked at his friend, who, flushed from the alcohol, nodded at the blond's command.
One spin. Two spins. Yunjin.
Ironic. A lesbian and a gay guy kissing. That earned a small laugh from Leo, making his attention drift away from Sangwon for the first time all night. After the shouting and whistling from the other players died down, it was his boy's turn.
Leo watched him with amusement, paying close attention to every little thing he did, because if there was one thing he'd learned over the course of their relationship, it was that Sangwon wasn't particularly communicative. He felt things in such a peculiar way that he usually expressed them between the lines. At least Leo had become an expert at reading those feelings.
Sangwon spun the bottle with a nervous smile, and Leo couldn't help but be amused by how pathetic his boy was being in his attempts to provoke him. He knew exactly what Sangwon wanted. Sangwon loved seeing Leo jealous. He was looking for it, challenging him, waiting for a reaction.
But Leo wasn't ready to give him one yet.
The irritation in his chest was building, but it hadn't reached the point where he felt overwhelmed by it. If anything, it was entertaining to watch his boy do everything in his power to annoy him, to get his attention. Still, Leo could say with complete certainty that Sangwon would never cross the line between making him jealous and actually cheating on him.
Leo trusted him with his eyes closed.
A smile spread across Sangwon's face when the bottle finally stopped on Kangmin, and Leo looked away, faintly amused despite the annoyance steadily growing in his chest. Leo got far too jealous whenever Sangwon was around that guy. Because he didn't trust Kangmin. His sixth sense told him that Kangmin had a slight fixation on his boyfriend.
He raised an eyebrow when he saw Sangwon bite his lip, clearly unsure of what to do. He shouldn't even be considering it. That would be crossing the boundaries they'd silently established in their relationship.
Kangmin was already getting up from his seat to kiss him when, unexpectedly for everyone except Leo, Sangwon grabbed the shot of vodka from the table, making it clear that he wasn't going to kiss him. Leo lowered his head to hide his smile.
His boy really did know how to entertain him at parties. And of course, Sangwon wouldn't disappoint him.
They played a few more rounds, and Leo was starting to get bored, but he wasn't leaving because Sangwon was still just as enthusiastic thanks to all the shots he'd had. Leo thought he was adorable when he was drunk. His cheeks turned pink, his hair got messy, his words became clumsy, and he got so affectionate, practically rubbing himself against Leo while silently asking to be held.
The smile disappeared from Sangwon's face, however, when the entire circle insisted that Leo spin the bottle. It wasn't fair that he had only been watching. His body tensed. Unless the bottle landed on him, he knew he wouldn't be able to watch Leo play this game.
Sangwon brought a finger to his mouth. He was nervous, his heart had even started beating faster. Unfortunately, Leo wasn't drinking because he had to drive. He was still responsible for Sangwon, even as his ex-boyfriend. Getting his boy home safely was an obligation he genuinely enjoyed fulfilling. So he spun the bottle under the watchful eyes of everyone sitting around the circle.
Sangwon would remember every single one of their faces. He bit his lip so hard that he drew blood, catching Leo's attention for a second.
He didn't know if he was angry, jealous, or simply scared of losing Leo over something stupid. Over his own whims. Over never knowing when to give in and apologize. Fate could be a real bastard when it wanted to be. The bottle landed on none other than Leo's ex-boyfriend.
Leo only shrugged, brushing it off. After all, he and Geonwoo still talked from time to time. But just as he was getting up from his seat, a hand grabbed his and pulled him out of the circle.
Sangwon shouted something that Leo couldn't make out over the music. His boy dragged him upstairs and into one of the bedrooms. Anxin would have to forgive him later. The door shut the moment Leo stepped inside what Sangwon was pretty sure was Xinlong's room.
The whole situation was incredibly amusing to Leo. And that made Sangwon's blood boil, he'd spent the entire night trying to get a reaction out of Leo. His attention. His arms. His kisses. And somehow they'd ended up here instead.
"Wipe that smile off your face, hyung. Were you seriously going to kiss him?" His voice sounded so annoyed that Leo couldn't help laughing as he started walking around the room, deliberately ignoring him. Sometimes he had to put on this detached act because it was the only way to get Sangwon to stop acting like a spoiled brat so they could actually talk like two adults. "Leo, I'm talking to you."
The blond stepped in front of him with his arms crossed and a frown on his face, a small pout forming on his lips. He didn't take his eyes off Leo's movements, but his voice had cracked slightly on those last words. Maybe he was a spoiled brat. Maybe he did have a personality that was difficult to understand, but he couldn't bear the thought that there might one day be a possibility of losing Leo. Sangwon had never been this in love with anyone before.
"Yeah. Those were the rules of the game, and I can't drink alcohol, Barbie, you know why."
The blond knew that, but still bothered him anyway.
He blamed the alcohol for all the emotions sitting so close to the surface. It was pathetic. Sangwon knew he wasn't an easy person to understand. He'd spent years trying to fix all the flaws he felt he had—and that other people had told him he had. Most of the time, he wasn't even sure the progress existed. He really was trying to stop being everything people criticized him for. Even so, he kept making mistakes and kept falling into the same patterns. And ever since he'd learned about Leo's feelings, his own insecurities had been impossible to ignore.
He'd never been in love with anyone before. Every relationship he'd had before Leo had been shallow and temporary. Leo was his first time for a lot of things. None of that was Leo's fault, not at all. He was the most understanding person Sangwon had ever met. And Sangwon was so hopelessly in love with him.
"But you can't kiss him. You're my boyfriend!" He put particular emphasis on the word "my" as he walked toward him, throwing one of the little tantrums Leo loved watching.
Maybe Leo was Sangwon's soulmate. No. Not maybe. Leo is Sangwon's soulmate.
He believed it so firmly that sometimes it was difficult to understand how he'd ever managed to live without him in his life. Sangwon was ridiculously beautiful, but Leo wasn't just talking about his appearance. He is in love with the way the younger man expressed himself, the way he talked, the way he told him about his day. Leo is in love with Sangwon's arms around him, with the way he stood on his tiptoes to kiss him, with the way he curled up against him like a kitten, with the way he teased him and tried to make him jealous.
Leo was even in love with all the things about Sangwon that the rest of the world considered flaws.
"Am I? Need I remind you who was the one that yelled 'we're done' a few hours ago?" The younger man's cheeks immediately turned red, but he wasn't about to back down. Unlike Leo, who was determined to put an end to this whole fight once and for all.
He loved Sangwon. With all his heart, and more than he'd ever loved anyone else in his life, and that didn't scare him in the slightest. He had never felt confused about it, and he had never tried to deny it. Sangwon had become a fundamental part of his days, the one thing he could never go without. That's why whenever he had problems with Sangwon, he knew not to panic or worry too much. Most of the time, it was Sangwon's insecurities taking over and making him act impulsively. So when the blond had broken up with him that afternoon, Leo knew he hadn't meant it and that he simply needed time.
"I didn't mean it, and you know that!" Leo wanted to laugh at the fact that his ability to read Sangwon's between-the-lines communication had paid off, but he didn't. This version of Sangwon, despite everything, was the one he found the most endearing, and he enjoyed seeing it for as long as possible. "I spent the entire night trying to make you jealous so you'd come over to me and we could end this stupid fight that I was the one who started, but you don't give a damn if some idiot touches me or kisses me!"
The dark-haired man rolled his eyes, grabbed the younger man by the waist, and pushed him back until he had him trapped between his body and the wardrobe behind him, enjoying the obvious height difference. It was something he had always loved about their relationship.
He loved being able to hold Sangwon and protect him from the entire world in his arms. He loved the way the younger man melted against him, always moving closer, as if he wanted to become part of him.
"Don't give me that now, doll. Everyone at this party knows you're mine." Suddenly, Sangwon felt so intimidated that he forgot why he'd been upset in the first place. Leo's dominant side was something he loved because no matter what he did, Leo always managed to get him under control and quiet every insecurity in his head before showering him with kisses and hugs.
"Still, you don't care about anything I do. I could've kissed several people during the game, and I didn't!" He lightly hit Leo's chest, still annoyed but careful with his words. Deep down, he didn't want to hurt him. Everything he did was driven by the pride he still had left, that stubborn part of him that wasn't ready to give in and apologize yet.
"Keep saying that and I'll make sure to fuck you so hard you won't be able to get out of bed for a week, Sangwon." His grip on the other's waist tightened, drawing a quiet gasp from him. Leo knew every one of his weaknesses, making Sangwon's mind wander toward thoughts he'd rather not be having right now. "I care so much that I spent the entire night watching you because you're an idiot who doesn't know how to take care of himself when he drinks."
"Shut up. You're the idiot who doesn't know how to give his boyfriend attention." He was so stubborn that it made Leo fall even more in love with him, but his mind also wandered to other things and he considered giving him a good punishment when they were in his apartment.
He cupped Sangwon's chin between his fingers, using just enough force to make their eyes meet so he couldn't even think about looking away.
"No, doll. Now you're going to be quiet and listen to me carefully." The blond puffed out his lower lip, looking completely defeated and cornered. It seemed as though the alcohol had fully left his system because all his bravery had disappeared. Leo had him in the palm of his hand. "From now on, you're going to stop throwing tantrums every time you feel like fighting or arguing, understood? I'm your boyfriend. You're always going to have my attention. You don't need some other idiot putting his hands on you all night right in front of me."
Sangwon nodded, biting his lip to hold back everything he wanted to say. He needed to learn how to give in. To stop being so impulsive. To stop listening so much to the insecurities in his head and start listening more to the boy who loved him more than anything.
Leo was right. The only reason Sangwon had broken up with him that afternoon was because Leo had been working overtime and hadn't paid attention when Sangwon was telling him about the outfit he'd bought specifically for the party they were at right now.
“Is that clear, Barbie?” Sangwon nodded at those words, his nose wrinkling as he avoided Leo’s eyes. He didn’t feel like looking at him. He might accept his mistakes, but the annoyance of seeing him so eager to kiss his ex wouldn’t fade anytime soon. “And secondly, this is the last time I’ll see you even let anyone touch you like that when they're not me, got it, doll?”
Ah yes, Sangwon loved it when Leo was possessive. If Leo wanted to mark his body in any way, Sangwon would probably let him without question. “You’re mine, Sangwon, completely mine. Your body and mind already know that.”
"Whatever you say, but you were about to kiss your ex-boyfriend. I'm still mad about that." Leo rolled his eyes, exhausted but smiling because that spoiled attitude was exactly what had made him fall for him in the first place. He raised a hand to the blond's hair, gently stroking it and smiling when Sangwon let out a quiet, pleased sound.
"Then do something with all that anger..." Leo leaned closer, his lips brushing against the younger man's ear as he spoke in a voice that sent a shiver down his spine. "Just think about how incredible it would've been to watch me kiss Geonwoo. Don't you like that image?"
"Why the hell would I like that image?" Sangwon huffed, completely ignoring the distraction as he kept a grip on the front of Leo's shirt, trying his best to keep his face turned away from him.
"I don't know. You've got peculiar tastes, so I thought it might be your thing..." Leo's hands left the wall so he could focus on the body in front of him. His right hand wandered over the torso hidden beneath Sangwon's shirt while his left settled at his favorite place: the younger man's waist. A soft gasp slipped from Sangwon's lips, drawing a smile from him. "Though I guess my boy has every right to be upset about that. After all, my ex-boyfriend is way hotter than he is."
The smack he received to the head only made him laugh. Annoying Sangwon when he was angry was one of his favorite hobbies. "You're an idiot, Leo. I don't even know why I like you."
Sangwon grabbed his wrist and pulled it away before intertwining their fingers, a hint of shyness returning to his expression.
"Fine. I'll go find Geon—" Before he could finish the sentence, the blond had grabbed his shirt and crashed their lips together, abandoning every trace of that shyness. Leo's hands immediately returned to Sangwon's narrow waist, squeezing firmly as he smiled against the kiss when he felt fingers threading through his hair. He kissed him back without hesitation, familiar and practiced in a way that made Sangwon melt every single time.
Sangwon's lips always tasted faintly of strawberry because of the lip balm he loved using, and Leo was completely addicted to it. He remembers perfectly the afternoon he'd come home from university, hooked his hands beneath Sangwon's thighs and sat him onto his lap without even saying hello. That day they spent the entire afternoon kissing, rubbing against each other, simply touching without undressing. It had been so erotic and intimate, watching his boyfriend crumble in his arms, so flushed and breathless, had been enough to stay in his memory forever.
"You're mine, Leo. Forget about all the idiots who've ever tried to have you." Sangwon murmured the words once he finally had to pull away for air. Their foreheads rested together as he tried to steady his breathing.
Sometimes Leo forgot just how possessive his boyfriend could be too. And honestly, he liked it.
“Then you stop making me jealous or I swear you’ll forget what it was like to walk properly.” Sangwon laughed and hugged the older man tightly, forgetting all the stupid things he had done today to seek his boyfriend’s attention; at the end of the day, he would always have it.
