Work Text:

Jacob doesn’t know if this was the best way to spend his birthday, hunched over his desk all day, staring at a computer screen with barely any breaks, but he’s committed, that’s for sure. He started the day with Chanhee, playing a bit of MapleStory while catching up on a call. Then he turned on his stream and played a few different party games with his viewers, before switching to League, where Jaehyun and Haknyeon joined in. It was fun at first, with the three of them bantering as they usually do, but most of the casual talking died off after the fourth loss in a row.

When they finally get a win, Jacob breathes a sigh of relief. “I thought we were cursed for a little while there,” he says.

“Nah,” Jaehyun says, the pop of a can resounding clear through the headphones, “how could we be cursed on your birthday? It was obviously because of that stupid skin Haknyeonie got.”

Jaehyun and Haknyeon start to argue, but Jacob ignores them. He’s just about to queue up for another game when he sees movement in the corner of his eye. He covers his mic with one hand and turns toward his bed, smiling. “All done?” he asks.

Eric finishes stretching out his shoulders and closes his laptop with a pout. “Yeah, sorry about that. I should’ve just said I’ll do it tomorrow.”

“It’s okay! I’ve been having fun with the boys.” Jacob leans in, out of view of the camera, and kisses the pout off of Eric’s lips.

Haknyeon groans in disgust and says, “Okay, hyung, it looks like we’re done for the night, now that Ericcie has stolen Cobie-hyung’s attention.”

Jacob thinks about arguing; Eric wouldn’t mind if he decided to keep playing, after all. But he actually would rather spend time with his boyfriend than start a new losing streak. “Yeah, let’s end it on a win,” he says, and he goes through the motions of ending his stream.

Eric gets out of bed and hovers near Jacob’s shoulder. He’s uncharacteristically quiet, and it makes Jacob want to rush through his typical end-of-stream chat with his viewers. His fingers dance along Jacob’s arm, fiddle with the sleeve of his shirt, increasingly distracting, until he starts to gently scratch at Jacob’s skin.

Like a puppy begging for attention, Jacob thinks fondly. And then he’s floundering as Eric steps in front of him, his back to the camera, and plops down directly onto his lap. “Oh!” he says, startled. He places a hand on Eric’s waist to keep him from falling, while his other hand frantically clicks on his mouse, shutting the stream down with a quick, “Bye, guys!”

Only when he’s sure that everything that could possibly be recording them is disconnected does he let himself relax. That could have been bad.

With a sigh, Eric wraps his arms around Jacob’s shoulders and presses their foreheads together. “I should’ve been celebrating your birthday with you, not working.”

“There’s still plenty of time in the day, baby.” Jacob smiles as their noses brush against each other. “When I said it was okay, I meant it. Besides, you were here with me the whole time. And you’re here with me now.”

Eric’s little pout eases at Jacob’s words, and he leans in to kiss Jacob sweetly. “Yeah,” he murmurs, “I’m here with you now. Happy birthday, Jacob-hyung. I love you.”

“Thank you, sweetheart. I love you too.”

Eric slides a hand along the nape of Jacob’s neck and slips a little closer. “Maybe I could… make it up to you?”

“Well,” Jacob says, fingers digging into Eric’s hips, gripping him tight, “if you insist….”
