"Hows your wife buddy?!"
They were in the tardis. Lux sitting on the consel the doctor nearby. Trying to figure out the next place to go.
Lux was bored so why not pick a fight. Could be fun.
"No we arent talking about that."
The doctor backed away from the consel.
Looking at lux with a crease in their brow. Ah lux hit for the right thing.
"Oh! We arent! Why not?!"
He asks in a mocking tone. Jumping off of the consel while holding his hat over where a mortals heart would be. A wide smile on his face. Eyes alight.
"Would you like to talk about your siblings."
His smile drops. A look of anger crossing over his face.
"Oh you want to play that game dont you."
He asks shaking a finger at them. Taking a few steps toward them.
"Your the one that started it."
Lux crosses his arms. Ready to read out the list of events. Well if we really are playing this game so be it.
"Oh oh you dont want to get on the topic of you moving on the reverse to her. Of you meeting her the day she died. And she died for you but you couldn't possibly know that. Cause spoilers."
He gestures around as he speaks. Stepping closer and closer to the doctor. Voice growing deeper. To try and scare the doctor.
"Lux."
The doctor say through gritted teeth. Holding their form with their arms.
"You really dont want to talk about it at all. She was your wife. You just left her."
The doctor gives the toon a pointed look. The toon was pointing directly at them. Aggressive in how he stood.
"You left her behind in a digital realm that could easily be deleted by your enemies but you know let the daughter of two of your companions die because you arent smart enough to get her out!"
Lux stomps a foot to point out his reasoning. A small smile growing on his face. Im getting under your skin doctor arent i?!
"First lux. She is not dead. Second if there was a way I would have found it. Now on the topic of family."
Lux stares back. The point he wanted to make made. The doctor cant save everyone. There will always be some who fall because of them.
He grits his teeth. Staring back.
"You knew how your family is. And you still summoned maestro anyways. You still brought them into a place you thought was safe. Did you think the tardis was safe. Did you trust me?"
The doctor asks. Hitting the nail right on point. A place you thought was safe was a little heavy handed but. True.
"Why would I think otherwise. We had been close from the start."
He grips his arm. As the doctor took a step towards the being of light. Lux looking back up at them. Eyebrows creased. Crabs. He wasnt kidding about pinpointing weaknesses.
"Well why wouldn't you."
Lux looks down. Shit.
"We had always been close. Theres a reason they were my first option. And dont forget that your the one who showed them my weakness. Its not my fault that you went ahead and did that."
Theres less anger in his voice. More frustration and fear.
He had gone from his confidence down to fear. He was scared of his own siblings. Two had tried to kill him in cold blood. Kill and use him. They knew he was in this universe. The least they could have done was warn a toon.
"I just cant get down to the why of it."
The doctor got to the actual thing that was bothering the bug.
"I know they want power they always do. But with how recently they had been imprisoned. It was reckless to attack the one that had released them."
Hes pacing fidgeting at his coat as he speaks.
The doctor watched with a small smile. There we go. Let's figure this out instead of talking about unsolved mysteries.
"I was even making a show of their power. Working hand in hand with them. I could have been crueler. I could have not even released them. But they chose to go after a weakness of mine immediately with no remorse. They tried to. . ."
His voice drifted away in thought hands grabbing the bow tie still around his neck.
"Would they have actually."
He chuckles. A hand on his forehead.
"Its not a would they question is it. They did exactly that."
He leans on the very box his sibling is trapped in. Knowing they are watching. Watching as their sibling teared up at the mere thought of what they did. What they planned to do.
"They were gonna use me as a puppet. They were gonna . . ."
His legs give out beneath him. He gets seated beside the box. Leaning on it.
"Doc. If I wasn't keeping that ink back. Would you have let em?"
He asks. Voice uncharacteristicly small for the person he is.
"No. No. I wouldn't have. Your my friend."
The doctor sat on a knee beside lux. Putting a hand on his shoulder.
Lux scoffs.
"Dont make me laugh. . .once the universe is fixed you'll get rid of me lickity split. Cause im dangerous. Aren't I doc."
Usually that type of threat would be partnered by a flash of yellow in his eyes looking back at the doctor with a smile. This time. This time.
He just kept looking forward. Holding his arms close to his body. Like everything would fall apart in a big noodly pile.
"You hero types are all the same. Get a use outta people then throw them out when your done. But dont forget. You gave me a key."
He kept staring forward. Tears slowly dripping from his eyes.
"Lux. . I . .after this. We will continue our parts as always. Me being the doctor. You being a god. Like before."
Lux sniffs. Trying to hide his face.
"Are ya gonna lock me up? I know too much to not be a threat. I've been doing my reading."
He tried to make that sound like a threat but his voice cracked midway through saying it.
Why wouldn't he make that assumption. Every other person hes trusted has tried to kill him or worse. Why wouldn't the doctor. What puts them on some kind of magical pedestal that the others couldn't be on.
The doctor was a proclaimed hero. That would do anything to win right?
Lux was a threat. A danger to the doctors precious universe it didn't matter if lux was helping. If he was going against everything he knew for the doctor. The doctor will make their choice and lux will be left in the dark.
Alone.
Why makes lux any different from the other gods.
The doctor hugs him. Tightly. Getting a squeak out of him.
"Your my friend lux. I promise to do whatever I can to keep you safe."
What? Thats not.
"Whatever I can. You are a part of my group. I wont leave you alone to die. I'll watch out for you the best I can."
But they have left behind others. Dont let their lies convince you.
The doctor lies.
Lux has gone silent. Leaning into the doctors touch.
"So we are friends?"
He asks in a quiet voice.
Why not believe the lie. For just a little bit. It will make this more entertaining.
"Yes. Yes we are."
The doctor slowly moved him so he was sitting in their lap. Thats when lux turned and returned the hug.
"Ya better not be lying or im gonna haunt you buddy!"
The doctor lets out a small laugh.
"Is that a promise?"
Lux buries his face on the doctors chest over those two hearts. Letting out a chuckle.
