Work Text:
Doomsday, a phenomenon that makes everyone died—except for Artificial Human. The sun melted, earthquake destroying everything, people died, animal died, leaving a ton of debris. The whole world is collapsing, just another thing that an universe would do to start a new civilization.
Amidst that destruction, sits two artificial humans on the highest cliff who watch everything destroyed. Their faces remain unfazed, not reacting to what's happening in front of their face. Veins beeps softly, a vital aspect from their life that proves they're still 'alive' in this form.
Their fingers intertwined in silence, hair moving as raging wind greets them. A boring white lab outfit is their only clothes—because they're never getting a 'bath'. Rui-002 and Hisui-010, two artificial models that passed both the quality test and cognitive test in spectacular result. The other models mostly failed at cognitive test, where they have defect in their logical chips.
The other survivor is Tsukasa-037, Nene-008, Emu-082, and Hisa-009. Hisa and Hisui are considered as twin models because their chips and 'owner' is the same. But Hisui still outstand Hisa because their 'owner' is improving Hisa's chip on Hisui's future chip.
Each artificial humans have one professor or researcher that responsible for a range of batch model. For example, batch 001 until 005 is hold by Professor Kamishiro. Batch 006 until 008 is hold by Dr. Kusanagi. Batch 035 until 040 by Professor Tenma. Batch 082 until 087 by Dr. Ootori. And the only one professor who specificly choosing two similar model despite how short their development is Professor Myoukyo, holding batch 009 and 010 only.
They move under UniTure Innovative Company, where the future of universe carved under their feet. They're all spread over the world, consist of a few main branch and sub-branches. Their ultimate goals is to make a future-driven innovation to maintain civilization in every way possible, especially anticipating the doomsday like this. One of their innovation is Artificial Humans. Like robot, but smarter and futuristic.
Each researcher has their own way to build and train their model. That's why there's a quality test and cognitive test from each branches to determine eligibility of the model. Despite the internal competition among the researcher, Prof. Kamishiro and Prof. Myoukyo always looks together and happily spend their time training their models. They treat their artificial humans like their children. And that's the beginning of Rui and Hisui interaction.
Animals running, hit by rocks from earthquake, cloud teared up, the sky turns into reddish orange. This is the doomsday, where everything backs to their own nature, except Artificial Humans. In this place, only Rui and Hisui survived. They didn't know how the others in other branches.
Their small-soft feet fleeting on the ground, forming a mini formation of dancing. Fingers intertwined, one hand on her waist, and one hand on his shoulder. One, two, three. One two three. With their world collapsing in the background, they moves swiftly to perform a honorable dance that their 'owner' often to do together.
Professor Kamishiro and Professor Myoukyo fallen each other. Both commit a marriage one year before doomsday. Then who are we to forbid their artificial human to not fallen each other too? They're learning from them. The essence of civilization, humanity, feelings, respect, honor, and affection. It's buried deep in their chips.
As their feet keeps moving, their gaze remains locked each other. "Say, Rui. Did you choose to live or just watch?" asked her. Simple question, yet holds everything for artificial humans like them. It depends on their decision on how to live in this apocalypse.
"I'll watch everything. From here, from above, from the crowd." A simple answer from Rui, and Hisui already expecting this answer from him.
No hesitation or fear in his eyes. Because he believes that this is his life. To watch, to monitor, to learn about society.
"That's why we're 'born' in this world, right? We're the bridge in this apocalypse," said him while watching the sun melt and an earthquake destroying everything. And the bitter truth is: he's right. It is the purpose they're here now.
"Nor you and me want to 'born' in this world. We're created for one purpose: to keep the existence of civilization when this day comes—apocalypse." He pulls her closer, then whispering in her ears. "Listen, Hisui. We're holding our 'owner' existence. And that's why we must building the next civilization and spread this existence into unforgettable for them."
She frowned, loading his words in her chips. Her pupils darting here and there, calculating the good reply to him. A glitch starts appearing in her logical space, probably a side effect from the apocalypse. "Are we really 'immortal' in their eyes?"
Rui chuckles. "That's not ours to determine. Whether we're mortal or immortal, our goals is clear: continuing the civilization after the doomsday. That is what 'He' said to me before 'He' buried in meteor with 'She'." Their steps stopped, leaving them in a standing posture, facing each other.
He tilted her chin with his index finger. "You can clearly say that 'She' is died with a smile beneath that meteorite. So, as their 'children', we need to continue this smile, like they should." She just remains silent. Her emotional module crashes when loads the memories with her 'owner'.
Instead of joy, reassurement, and calming, she loads the opposite feelings. Pain, suffering, heartbreak. Her palm clutching her chest, as if she 'feels' it herself. Another hand joined her, gently caressing it. "'She' will be okay. 'He' will take care of 'She' there." assure him.
No one forbids an artificial human to have a feeling like a human. Otherwise, it's a good thing because they can really mimic the civilization of humanization back then. Rui extending her arms, which is received positively from Hisui. Their artificial body clutching each other, with the world reaches their peak destroyment everywhere.
"We can do it. Together." he whispers dearly, and Hisui will believe onto his words. Because this is what they're made for, and she'll fulfill her duty while holding onto her 'owner'—Prof. Myoukyo—fundamental. Until the world fully collapse, until the doomsday reach their peak, they'll stay here, waiting for the future civilization they will carve together as an artificial humans.
