Chapter Text
Ever since Gary had been expelled, the school had been more peaceful, well.. as peaceful as it can get with people like Russell, Johnny, Derby and Earnest as the leaders of the groups. But at least Gary is gone. The principal had put Petey as the school's head boy, and honestly, Petey as the head boy doesn’t make any sense when you realize he’s a wimp, but maybe this’ll toughen him up. Hopefully.
The sun, bright and early, is shining down as usual right outside his window, forcing him awake. The sun… something that he could never relate to, the concept of being bright and early simultaneously just doesn’t appeal to him. Petey, his best friend, shit maybe his only friend seems to be the opposite as proven by the fact he is outside of his dorm, having been knocking impatiently for the best five minutes, maybe he should get up.
Jimmy peels the blankets back reluctantly and stretches and groans as his bones and joints pop, grunting in slight pain at his back cracking the most, maybe he should stretch more often… or maybe not, he should be fine.
“Holy shit man, Give me a second Petey, I’m coming!” He called out, a tad irritated by being interrupted on his train of thought. “Jesus Christ…” he muttered as he got up to get the door, stumbling slightly as he tried to shake his legs to get them working again. He opened the door and was immediately shoved past, stumbling again but this time towards the wall, rattling the trophies and memorabilia of his accomplishments hung on his wall.
“Fucking hell Petey, what could be so important you wake me up on a Saturday morning?” He doesn’t acknowledge that he was already awake while twiddling his fingers thinking about Gary’s fortunate demise.
Petey, who was pacing back and forth eventually stopped and turned to look at me before beginning too again once more. Jimmy doesn’t like the look on his face, automatically assuming something was wrong with him or that someone had said something to him. Already starting to get impatient and increasingly concerned, He grabbed Petey by the shoulders and stopped him, forcing him to look him in the eyes.
“Petey dude, what’s up? What’s going on?” Petey blinks at him before responding in a panicked voice, his hands moving at the same time as his mouth. “I have to plan a dance for the entire school because of Dr Crabblesnitch wanting it to take the spotlight off of Gary destroying the school in less than a week and I have no idea who to go to for foods, drinks, I have no way to find a DJ, No way to even possibly think about what the theme would be—“
Petey continues to ramble on and on about how he’s unprepared and that the principal is a prick for pushing all of this onto him while he’s studying for finals. If he’s being honest, he doesn’t fully catch every single thing he says but he gets the gist of it. “Alright Petey chill out man, you’re freaking the fuck out right now man, just chill.” Petey suddenly stops rambling and pulls away from him, rubbing his face with his hands and mumbling. “I knew this was a mistake, him making me headboy, I can’t do this anymore, maybe Gary was right about me being a sissy.”
Jimmy's head snaps up at the sound of that, he knows that he makes comments on Petey and how he’s a baby at times but hearing him think that way and saying that Gary was right about something ticks him off.
Jimmy pulls Petey towards his bed and has him sit down next to him on the edge, the bed springs sounding obnoxiously loud, maybe he should tell Petey to let the principal know to invest in new mattresses, but maybe not right now since Petey is freaking out about this dance shit. Petey looks up at him and lets out a huge sigh before putting his head right back into his hands.
Jimmy feels a little bad for him, being head boy, encompassing having to deal with teachers wanting you to do things for them, relay messages to the principal and plan events for the school must be taxing on his brain. Jimmy knows he’d be screwed if he was in his position, which… thank god he wasn’t, he’d rather sit around all day jerking off or sleeping, a day for fit for a king.
He breathes in deeply before speaking to Petey. “Pete, if you need so much help with arranging people for this stupid dance, maybe go to Gord or derby, they have shit tons of money and resources, go leach off of them.” Petey’s eyes light up immediately at the idea of leaching off of the preps and turns to hug Jimmy tightly. “That’s a great idea Jimmy, maybe I can actually plan this dance, I can ask them to call connections, maybe I’ll even ask some of the other groups, you’re a genius man.” Petey stands up and walks towards the door before turning to look back at Jimmy with hopeful eyes.
“Have any idea who you’d wanna bring to the dance?” Jimmy's eyes widened at the question before turning away, avoiding his eyes.
Bringing someone to a dance… a dance he’s not even sure he wants to go too, a dance he’s probably gonna be bored off and skip in favor of going to sleep or playing video games in the dorm living room. But, let’s say that he does bring someone, who would he want to invite? His mind immediately goes to Zoe but shakes his head to rid the thought, remembering how she’d broken up with him months ago, defending the decision with how they have different wants in life and how she can’t be tied down to one person, at least she was honest, that’s more than what some assholes in this school will do.
Maybe he could ask Kirby, he bristles at the thought, they hadn’t been doing too well as of recently. They aren’t together or anything, just… kinda in a weird gray area. Kirby had been flirting with him, bringing him flowers, writing notes and such when they’re alone together but also ignoring him when he’s around the other jocks, wanting to protect his reputation or whatever.
Code for being insecure about being a sissy if you asked him. There’s no way Kirby would accept his offer to go to the dance with him, he’d laugh in his face before saying yes, would rather be caught dead before he’d be seen with another guy publicly.
Jimmy realizes he’s been in his mind for a few minutes and notices Petey's eyes drilling into him as he’d stayed silent when questioned on who he’d bring. “Shit man, I don’t know, I’d probably skip it to be honest with ya Petey, not sure I’d want to go with anyone or that anyone would wanna go with me.” Jimmy lies smoothly through his teeth, hoping Petey would fall for it.
Unfortunately that was not the case. Petey narrowed his eyes at him suspiciously, not having trusted his words. “What about Kirby? Aren’t the both of you kinda together?” Jimmy mumbles “I wish…” Petey picks up on the mumbling and decides to end the topic, sensing the sensitive subject he encroached on.
Petey goes to open the door and looks back at Jimmy and speaks in a disappointed tone. “Well, I do hope you come, it doesn’t even have to be with Kirby, it can be with anyone or by yourself, it would just be nice if you came.” Petey walks out of his room, leaving Jimmy to stew in his thoughts, biting at his nails, wondering why he’s even debating this. He isn’t going to the dance, at least he really doesn’t want too. But he doesn’t want to disappoint Petey.
Fuck. He’s gonna have to suck and up and go, maybe he can find another person who was guilt tripped into going and hang with them for the night, spending the time making fun of everyone’s outfits like a couple of assholes. Or… he could ask Kirby to to the dance, facing his fears like a real man would. It would be fun to dance with him, showing him off to everyone as his… boyfriend. “Yea right, as if he’d even think of calling himself my boyfriend.” He thinks to himself.
But it wouldn’t hurt to try, he has gym with him today, he’ll see him and maybe he’ll get rejected, or maybe he’ll be hugged and kissed until he couldn’t breathe asking him. No chance, but it doesn't hurt to ask right? Even if it means getting punched in the face.
